When I had 3.42s I ran 26" tires at the track and they worked out great.

I believe its just the low and high tables tuned, when you run the higher octane it will run a little better. I run 89 octane most of the time, and when I plan on going to the track I run the better stuff. I do get better fuel mileage running the higher octane though.

The 26" tire will work fine. A good deal of people run the shorter tire for plenty of reasons.

It will help your gearing like you said. I beleive the biggest reason most guys don't run the 26" tire is because it looks goofy. I borrowed a set once. The worked well but they did look goofy!

heck i dont care if it looks goofy or not as long as they work. i just wont have them wheels that stick out of the wheel wells like 3 inches. thats goofy looking.

Ran mine on a set of 2000 silverado stock aluminum 16s. Fairly light wheel and tire combo.

What's the cut off with gearing before you have to switch to a 28" tire?
