towing with yank 3k stall
#1
Who here tows with their stall? ive used the search button and not much comes up. My setup is 5.3 silvy, 4l60, full bolt ons, yank 3k stall, and 4.56 gears. Ill be towing my dads 32 ft scarab offshore boat every once in a while. Is this to much for a 3k single disc stall? Oh boat weights 7500-8k loaded

I think most people on here are going to tell you that, that is probably a little too much weight for a single disc converter with that stall. Maybe ok if the stall was a few hundred RPMs lower.

Heat will be a problem. Dont let it get out of control. I have a hard enough time keeping mine cool in stop and driving that I haven't dared hook up a trailer since the converter went in.
Also the extra weight will make the converter stall higher. Be ready for it when getting rolling from a dead stop.

Are you sure the boat is that heavy?
I have a 3200 FTI stall and have pulled a 4000-5000 lb car hauler with a probe on it from DC to NW ohio through the big hills and didn't have a problem. I have also pulled a 6000-8000 lb skid loader but that was for only about 15 miles each way. A light weight camper (4000 lb I guess) for about 25 miles. Also a 28ft boat on a two axle trailer a few times each trip atleast 20 miles.
All of that and more with a D-maxx cooler and never had an issue. I think you are pushing it if the boat is that heavy and or have many hills. If you are on flat land or slightly heavy on your weight guess you should be alright. Just gotta make sure you have a big enough cooler!

I haven't pulled anything quite that heavy, but I've had probably 6000lbs behind my 9.5" Vigilante that stalls about 3000 in my truck. I have made probably 10 trips completely back and forth across Texas from the flats of east Texas to the mountains of El Paso. So far, so good and mine locks up just fine. It will drop out of overdrive and start staying in drive once I start climbing the hills, but it never slips.

How tight is the converter? I run a circle-d 278mm that will flash to 3100rpm with my camper on the back (7klb's roughly). Ive pulled from indiana to texas and back mid summer with out the tranny going above 180* in stop n go.
Id say do a trial run and see how it does.. While pulling up the boat ramp tho id prolly use some gear reduction (4lo)
