Default Towing Advice

I have a 22-24ft goose neck that I trailer a couple of my horses in. My 2004 1500 Z71 has about bit the dust which leaves me looking for a new truck. I know the 2009-2014 silverado 1500's have more hp than my current truck. However, are the newer half tons doing okay towing, or should I step up to a 2500. Other than my horse trailer, I tow a utility trailer (16ft and 18ft) occasionally doing fence jobs to make spare cash. Also, what ever I get it has to be 4x4....my fence jobs usually entail driving in less than pleasant conditions. I probably pull the horse trailer 2-4 a month. Leaves me wondering if a 2500 is overkill.

Thats a big and heavy trailer for a half ton in my opinion.

I wouldnt really want to tow more than 6000-7000lbs with a half ton at the max. Going up the a stronger rear suspenion/rear end and the likely the 4L80e or 6L90e more heavy duty trans is what I'd do.

Personally, I wouldnt want a 1500 for what you are talking about doing.
