How big are you talking about? I fit a 285/75-16 under there with no problem.

My stock spare is in the bed of the truck. I secured it with a Bike lock using one of the loops in the corner of the bed.

I do this as well. A 35" doesn't fit in the stock spare location in my Sonoma. So instead I built an aluminum gas tank in the spare location instead.

I have successfully put a 295/70R17 in the full size spare tire location. A customer bought 4 Nitto's for his Avalanche 1500, and another for the spare to have all sizes matching. So I know at least a 33.5" diameter will fit, not sure about a 35 but I doubt it.

99% of the population doesn't carry around a tool that can cut through a cable. If they want your tire bad enough to scope you out for several days and bring bolt cutters, then why wouldn't they reach under your truck and do the same?

I had a 35" Dunlop Mud Rover in the stock location on my '01 2500HD. However, I also had my exhaust dumped before the axle, so that was one thing I didn't have to worry about getting in the way.
