Need new transmission 4l80E or NV4500

So 1200 Miles with the LQ4 was all it took to wipe out a rebuilt 4L60E with 20,000 miles.

I have a few options I'm thinking of doing now and would ask you guys if you have any input.

Option #1
Swap out to 4l80E out of 97-2007 3/4 ton. This will require wiring harness adapter and modified Drive shafts/cross member/tune. My local junk yard has none in stock but I was there the other day getting parts to change out to hydro brakes and they have a 2003 in what they call the hold lot. Long story short the truck is a 03 2500 HD and for what ever reason they have the tranny marked as CORE because when they get from the auto auction it says doesn't drive. The truck was in a front end wreck that really wasn't that bad and don't know why they would already be junking this 80E with out even testing it. I can get this CORE 4L80e for $100 and can get Flywheel,Dust Cover, TQ converter bolts ECT. So with this option I could install it myself and see if it works and if it doesn't bring this to get Rebuilt. $100 for a Core tranny is cheap and with the chance it might work just fine is even better. 160,000 Miles on this truck.

Option 2
Change out to a manual transmission NV4500 5 speed. This option I would need Master cylinder,Lines,Clutch Ect and this is almost same length as my 60E so not much modifying to Cross members and drive shafts. This would be more work in the long run but really liking the idea of having a manual transmission again. Save myself $800 from not having to buy a stall converter to off set price. I have yet to price out if my junk yard has a donor truck to get all the stuff i would need so don't know the cost for this Swap but Im thinking it will be around the same for both with built 80.

What do you guys think?

I don't tow and am going for performance. Its been years since I had a manual transmission and all I can remember is they are so much fun. I know of the 3 cars/truck i have had that had a manual they wouldn't have been able to do the things I did with them with automatic. On the flip side this 60E is a POS and am sick of rebuilding it where the 80E might do just fine.

I can get this here for $1000 out of a 2002 2500 HD

defanitly do a 80E with a good stall

A manual is great and fun but as far as I know truck manual trans arent exactly known for being able to shift fast, especially the 1-2 shift, like if you wanted a manual bad and you really want performance a t56 swap would be cool and its been done

Or do the 4l80e, which a tried and true beefy auto trans

Rebuilt 80 with 3800 stall is what i got, the NV4500 was just to hard to find parts cheap as its a really rare tranny it seems.

What converter did you go with?

I had a Yank on order from Dave and when I ordered my tranny from Schabs Transmissions it came with a 3 year 36,000 warranty. When I told them I wanted to install a Yank converter he said I could but any warranty issues I had to send converter with it as they would cut it open to see if the converter caused the problem and if it did I get no warranty. Now I know Dave makes an excellent product but im not the one sitting next to them to see and dont trust people as they would most likely past the blame.

So the owner over there has a local guy that makes all his converters and I got a 10" Billet 3600-3800 single disk stall converter from him as he will warranty the tranny and stall for 3 years.

The stall was cheap so if it sucks Ill install a circle D or Yank and take chance with warranty. My tranny shows up her in few hours and Ill take pictures to post up.

Update: It just showed up
