Default Building a 2008 GMC Sierra Crew Cab Z71

New here guys. I currently have a 2008 gmc crew cab z71 with the LMG 5.3l. I also have a stock LQ4 setting in my shop. With both engines at hand, what combo do I need to go with when I install the LQ4. I’m sure there are several parts I need to purchase like a good cam. Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

Honestly scrap this idea entirely with that engine.

You are talking two completely different engine generations. The amount of headache it will cause to just make an older generation function in the new truck is not worth it at all.

Just to spit ball the major difference between the two engines. LQ4 is 24/1x, your LMG is 58/4x crank trigger. Cam sensor is on the back of the engine in a LQ4, yours in front cover directly over the timing gear. Knock sensors are in the valley plate in a LQ4, yours are bolts to the side of the block near the oil pan on each side. You'd have to drill and tap the block and hope it all works out.

You need a GEN 4 6.0 if you want a no hassle swap with no machine shop work required. So I'd sell the LQ4 and find a LY6, L76 or L96 engine.

The LY6 and L96 will have VVT but no DoD/AFM. The L76 has both VVT and DoD/AFM. I'd delete the VVT and DoD/AFM and use an aftermaket camshaft.

Thanks for that information. I was under the impression that the LQ4 was a no hassle swap. Glad I found this out before I started aye.

It's a bolt in swap for 99-07 trucks.

2007.5+ is the newer gen engines.
