2wd to 4wd conversion?
 

is it easy??? or is it just a waste of time??

Everything I've ever heard about this is that it's a waste of time, unless you're converting the truck to a solid front axle (where it matters significantly less if you had 4wd to start with, as you're literally removing the entire drivetrain aft of the transmission as well as the entire front suspension regardless of whether you start with 4wd or not).

On a half-ton coil sprung 2wd, you'd need to replace the entire front suspension, modify the transmission, new rear driveshaft, different frame crossmembers (I think), buy a transfer case/front shaft/front diff and all the other front end goodies. It's always cheaper to just sell yours and buy a 4wd.

Priced it for a friend because I work part time at advance auto and another friend runs an off road shop and it is way cheaper and easier to sell the 2wd and buy a 4wd!

this is a awsome deal but its constant awd and not 4hi/4lo. you would also need front arms/ torson bars/ and t bar crossmemeber.

waste of time and money. It would be cheaper and more reliable to just buy a 4wd truck.

It all depends on how serious you are. I am doing a 1 Ton Straight Axle Conversion on my 95 2wd, and so far I am 6K into it. If you just plan to do some light offroading or something, I would lift the truck you have now, and put a locker out back.

In my case, I will taking the truck everywhere and will use the 1 Tons I am throwing underneath.

Of course, I could have bought a 4wd but, 88+ year model trucks have IFS which is absolute crap IMO, and 87- year model trucks don't have an easily tuneable EFI, and the frames are weaker.

But, like I mentioned, it all depends on how serious you are.
