First gear definitely made idling along easier. Took it out on the road and got some speed. Knobby tires and asphalt make for a squirrelly ride.
Changed the gearbox fluid in the pw50. Pretty certain it hasn’t been changed in forever if ever.
I need to tinker on the throttle control for this one. It’s got a stop screw in it to control speed but if you screw it all the way in there’s not enough to get it to move but if you twist the throttle just a hair more the thing rockets off at top speed. Had to save the kid from going face first into the front edge of the frame rails of the blazer and in the process wrenched my already pissed off back so now I’m laid up on the couch with a back brace and some aleve. Think I’m going to buy a new throttle assembly and cable and go from there. I tried taking the slack out of the cable with the adjuster and it made the problem worse. I have a feeling the cable is probably just worn out. Also ordering the little washer that goes in the exhaust to restrict the power on it. Little man does not need to be doing 15-20mph.
Ya it hasn’t been fun. Been laid up on the couch all day and missed the parade. Was gonna ride the bikes in the parade. Did get to swim in the pool though. Got a new cable, throttle assembly, exhaust washer, and the correct throttle stop screw ordered.

Went to do a tune up on my son’s pw50 and found remnants of an air filter, fiberglass plugging up the spark arrestor and silencer, and a bunch of wet oil in the exhaust. New air filter and exhaust ordered and on to the debates of removing the oil pump or adjusting it. Carb was actually clean but went ahead and pulled the jets and blew it out and scrubbed it for peace of mind. Fired up first kick with no choke. Dang thing is loud with no exhaust haha.
Finally got mine out to Hidden Falls a couple of weeks ago. Not certain I’m a dirt bike person but it was fun and intense.
On another note, neither of my kids took to the little pw50 I bought. They just didn’t like it. So I got these.
Traded the pw50 for the scrambler 50 straight up. Runs ok. Needs a new battery and a tune up as it’s running rich but it runs good. Gonna let my daughter have this one.
The white one is a Yamaha blaster 125. Had to put a timesert in the head for the spark plug and clean up the carb but it runs great. Need to buy a seat and some tires but both the kids love it. This one is for my wife and son to drive around on.
As for the "not a dirt biker" comment- new account who dis?!?
Different strokes for different folks, and if its not fun for you, its not fun. Spend your time and money on stuff you do enjoy! For me tho... I cannot wait to get out tomorrow! The KTeMMMM has new bibs, new tires, rebuilt and revalved forks, new chain/sprocket, lots of new body parts, new levers and I rebaselined the suspension settings. I cannot WAIT to party on that fast and jumpy girl
It was fun but not sure I enjoyed it if that makes sense. Racing between trees barely the width of my shoulders was intense. Trying to remember what body part controlled which lever while planning my attack was a lot. Having the rear end kick out when I wasn't expecting was surprising. A lot of it is inexperience so I want to get out at least one more time for longer and see how I like it before I make a decision.
it's a big investment, but side by sides are where it is at IMO. I can do **** on my buggy that would amaze you. The only obstacle that stopped me at hidden falls was climbing the water fall. I'm upgrading my stock 32's for some 35's on beadlocks and tackling that bastard.
