DIY Spray on Bed Liner
9 Attachment(s)
So I decided to finally do something about my dented and scratched up truck bed.
Attachment 129146 Attachment 129147 After seeing the results from a few roll-on kits, I knew that wasn't for me. so after looking around I came across this kit from SEM Products and pulled the trigger on it. Attachment 129148 http://i1139.photobucket.com/albums/...ps431ab795.jpg Prepping consisted of 80 grit discs on the electric sander and 100 grid paper my hand to get in all of the ribs and crevices of the bed. Then the body hammers and a little bit of bondo to fix the dents. The bed liner will cover most dents by it's self, but I am super picky and just wanted to make sure it was as close to perfect underneath before spraying it on. Attachment 129149 Attachment 129150 Somehow lost all of the pictures of the actual spraying the kit, but here is the final result: Attachment 129151 Attachment 129152 Also got rid of the stock tailgate cap and replaced it with a color matched SS Silverado cap/spoiler. Came out pretty well for rattle can paint. Got the paint from: Automotive touch up dot com. Looks really good! Does it dry fast?
Is that a Proto hammer? I have the same one..its a keeper! |
It dried pretty fast. Let it dry completely overnight.
I believe that is a Proto. Definitely been around a while. |
How thick is it?
|
It's not anything like lineX or rhino liner that can go on like an 1/8 of an inch or anything. I'll grab a pic of the tape line.

That bed is barely broken in... Do you remember seeing Old Blue's bed ? Let me fix it up for you !
|
Yeah I know if was nowhere near Blue's haha. Just got the idea to do it and pulled the trigger.
|
came out great

Could you spray on another coat to thicken it up and make it more durable? how durable is it? Any flaking off? I had a dealership sprayed in liner in my last truck and we cracked it in a few spots. Thing is the cost was close to a line-x and the quality was Horse S***. Looks dang good, what did the kit run, my old man needs a bedliner.

Yeah you can add another coat on top of it at any time after it's cured. I got this kit on Ebay for $112 Shipped. After getting the sand paper, tape and plastic sheeting I was only into it $148 I did notice a light spot on one side of the bed, and I touched it up with some Duplicolor Bed Armor, which matched great.

it wont flake unless your prep is shit.. i used a raptor kit off fleabay 5 years ago and it still looks great

Great job on the DIY liner, man.
When it comes to this kind of thing the most important part is the prep and often times people don't give it the necessary amount of attention. If you don't mind posting when the durability has been proven or disproven by time and use for those members who are still "linerless" and wanting an economical alternative. Once again, gj. I think it'd be perfect w/ an additional coat but just my personal opinion. |
Would really be nice to have an overall update on how well it has held up to use and the UV rays.
|
Nice man. I paid alot more than that for my linex.
