the thread that started it all.........new install

For those "old hats" still around, the thread that started it all for me on the then "LS1Tech Truck" section, now "PT.net", was a stereo install thread I paid a shop to do on my 2003 1500HD 4x4 that went terribly wrong! fast forward 16 years and I'm at it again......except this time I'm doing the install myself!

rear seat lift installed:

the plan: stock HU is going to be running to an PAC AmpPro, then to a JL TwK 88 DSP, from there will run to Pioneer 4 channel and mono amps, fronts will be a set of JBL GTi 670 6.5" components, rears JBL 6.5" coaxials, and then either to a single Sundown SA10 or 2 Kicker 8" Solo Barics. 13 layer baltic birch for the subwoofer box. Just waiting on the speakers to get started!

Well, no one else has asked so I will...any progress?

Lol, old hats. I remember when LS1TECH added the truck section, lol. Hell I remember when LS1TECH started to give people a escape from the BS on LS1.com, lol. Good luck on this build. I also just opted for JBL in my truck mainly due to cost and reviews. I went with the older GT7 series for my front doors in their components set and just powered off a cheap ass power acoustics headunit they sound really good. Can’t wait to amp them and get some 5 1/4” for my extended cab doors. I’m bought a set of JBL 6.5’s but without major modifications to the door I can’t get them to fit behind the door panels in the stock 4x6 location. Hence the wanting to grab some 5 1/4’s, round just sounds better than oval, lol.

Are you going to be doing any sound deadening?

I upgraded to the OEM 7" touch screen from my 4.5". Been really wanting to up to the Alpine i209 headunit and do JL components all around but keep telling myself that I need to leave well enough alone. LOL like that has ever actually happened.

Lol, definitely not the traffic this place used to have back in the day! Yes, I have my last batch of 13 layer, 3/4" baltic birch on its way. With that said and not being a regular wood worker I bought some saw blades more appropriate to the higher quality plywood (getting snooty in my older age); basically higher tooth count and such. Also been acquiring all the odds and ends one needs to do a nice install; takes time/$$ when starting from near zero.

I'll be starting with the rear doors and sub box. As with most things, the rear lift kit isn't perfect. Yes it lifts the rear seat in a fairly safe manner and yes the seat folds down (which is nice) but the side plastic beauty pieces need some trimming along with a few other details. These will add time/effort but will bother me if I don't address them.

Trying to do the install in smaller jobs to lessen the burden of a single big thrash/install but I know I'll probably need a solid 4 day weekend once its time to really dig into this bisch!

Yeah buddy, still on here from time to time. Not near the volume of the old days!

I read from what I believe to be several credible sources that the jbl's are designed with off axis listening in mind, common the car audio environment/installs. I think you made some good choices!

Yes but not getting crazy with it. I'm not looking to gut the interior or anything like that. Probably just sticking to the doors, rear cab wall, and floor........call it done after that!

Use Diablo blades bro. I’m a custom carpenter and that’s the only blades we use. Router bits too. They cut so damn smooth.
