I gave my opinion just as he did... I just don't see how people can say they "like the bass of a 12 more than a 10" when, in reality, its all the same. One might get slightly louder or lower than the other, and there are some 10's that will out-**** a 12 and even some 15's... Thanks

It's like saying a 10 plays "faster" then a 15. General statements like that make my blood boil!

[QUOTE=ramdaspadhye]Newb.

You like the bass of a 12 more than the bass of a 10... That a universal statement? The difference between a 10 and a 12 is marginal in a sealed enclosure. In ported, a 12 usually "sweeps" more air than a 10, but that doesn't mean one will "hit" harder or sound any better. I've got a Resonant Engineering SX 15 in a 5.5 cu ft box at 30hz that sounds like 10 10's in my Yukon. Size doesn't necessarily amount to output or quality of sound.

you sure about that.. i beg to differ i had 10`s 12`s 15`s and there was a hugh differnece when they hit.. 2 10`s could come no where near hitting as hard as my 15`s did..we built a custom box for my friends 12`s they sounded nice and my 15`s would hit alot harder..lol and you are trying to compare 1 15 to 10 10`s those 10 10`s would smoke that one 15 in a heat beat..

Well whoever says that is a *duh duh duh*.

ramdaspadhye: And there is quite a big difference between the sound of a 10 and 12 inch subwoofer.....so you my friend are the noob. Size does matter when it comes to sound output....bigger subs are able to hit lower Hz then a 10 inch or 8 inch sub. You are going to get deeper fuller bass from a 12 or 15 inch sub aslong as you right run the correct setup of sub/amp/wire combination. You could have 2 12's with some bs flea markets 3000watt amp and of course 1 or 2 10's w/ a decent mtx or kicker amp will hit harder. The reason your 15 sounds so good is because you drive a TAHOE not at truck.....you vehicle is one giant box w/ a ton of airspace. Next time if you want to give your opinion don't call someone else names unless you actually know the the hell your talking about. I dont like people who insult others on this website who are trying to get information.

Really? Here's the t/s parameters from the Resonant Engineering website for the SE 10" woofer...

SE SERIES
T/S Parameters10”
Electrical Q Value -Qes: 0.46
Mechanical Q Value -Qms: 4.4
Total Speaker Q Value -Qts: 0.42
Free Air Resonance -Fs: 26.6 Hz
Equivalent Compliance -Vas: 31 liters
One-Way, Linear Excursion -Xmax: 18 mm
Efficiency -SPL 1W/1m: 83.2 dB SPL
Effective Piston Area -Sd: 310 cm^2
DC Resistance -Re: 2.8 ohm
Nominal Impedance -Znom: Dual 4 ohm
Thermal Power Handling -Pe: 600 W
Force Factor -Bl: 17.7

And here's the t/s parameters for a more popular Kicker CVR12...

http://www.kicker.com/06/tech-suppor...0c01%20Web.pdf

go there and look up the fs for it, it's 26.1. The difference between 26.6 and 26.1 is so minute you can't tell there's any difference.

Okay, you want something more than a CVR... Check out the L7's...

http://www.kicker.com/06/tech-suppor...0b01%20WEB.pdf

Fs of the 15 is only 26.3, and again, the RE SE 10 is in the same category there.

I only used kicker because it's common. I'm not downing Kicker in any way, shape, or form. I'm just using them as an example.

Fi Audio Q-10" woofer t/s parameters...

fs is only 32, and it's an 18....

As I was saying... a 10 can sound just as good or better than a 12, 15, or 18. Size doesn't matter as far as SPL or SQ of a woofer. You have to look at the t/s parameters of the woofer to determine if the woofer is for you. If you want a woofer with a high fs, be prepared for as ub that doesn't drop down low very well but will probably have more SPL than a woofer with the lower FSs.

So, to SMokedSierra01...

Next time you have a thought...just let it go.

I'm happy you took the time to find a bunch of random subwoofer data off some website....whats funny is you probably have no idea what those numbers mean except that Hz happened to be in one of the rows

I know you will probably take another hour out of your day to post more meaningless data but the guy wanted to know what 12's sounded the best. Here is what I think about subs:

12's: give great low bass, good if you like rap IMO
10's good all around sub wether you listen to rap rock or classical IMO
8's: I particularly like the Kicker Solo-Barac 8 inch sub. I think if you have a two of these with a great amp set up then you will have a really original system that packs a punch.

All of this really depends on what you want in a system. Many people have different taste so what do you want as far as sound quality, etc...

lol, I've been in audio for about 6-8 years, been to quite a few competitions. Know quite a few people personally from Team ToxicBass, know david from Resonant Engineering, know Scott from Fi Car Audio (original designer for Resonant Engineering). All those specs were gotten off the manufacturers' websites, which is why I posted the links. And yes, I do know what the other numbers mean, especially when trying to figure out which sub is best for you (qts, qms, and qes). You also have to have ALL those values when properly designing a transmission line enclosure or any enclosure based off the 1/4 wave theory.

I know quite a bit more than you, and don't have to sit on a performance truck forum to try to explain it to you. The point I'm tryign to make is that you were proved wrong when you say that a 12 can produce more bass than a 10. If you had any sense of reality and knew what "those numbers" mean, then you would understand. Perhaps if you crawled out from under your mom's undertitty and get out in the real world, you'd realize that you, in fact, don't know everything.
Thanks

you can get a better quality sub in a 10 that will sound better than a cheap small 12 that will fit.
