Remote start, GM or aftermarket?

Hey guys, wanted to add remote start to my 2012, would I be better off with a factory system, of have a Excalibur al-1830-edpb

I'm not worried about the price, I want the more reliabe system

do you have factory keyless now? DEI can add remote start and extend the range of your factory remotes with adding one of their DBALL units, so you can keep your factory fob. but this only adds remote start, it's not an alarm. If you want an alarm then you have to go aftermarket. I've never had experience with excalibur as I'm a directed dealer, I sell mainly viper and clifford.

If remote start is all your looking for then just order the key fobs from GM and have them reprogram your bcm it's quick and easy and doesn't cost too much. It's reliable as well and also a fail safe if your SES light is on as it will disable remote start to warn you.

Ok that's cool. Hard choice than guys. I think I'll go with the factory setup

Have the factory setup in my 11' and it works great. Like mentioned above it also has that nice fail safe with the SES light.

Also if you have onstar you can remote start it from anywhere you have cell service.

Does this work if I don't have remote start (with the remotes)

Aftermarket doesnt = non-reliable. Get a quality aftermarket unit installed professionally and you'll be much happier than having the factory one.

No you have to get the remote start remotes and have your bcm flashed to have the feature. It's really neat as it tells you on your phone (from any distance) that your vehicle is now on or off or locked and then some. If you have a smart phone it takes the features up another notch and gives you every bit of info as a aftermarket would. Oh and yes an aftermarket unit is reliable if installed right and is a notable brand but for less then $250 why not go factory and have more features and distance?
