remote start on 04 silverado questions?
 

ive installed these on many camaros, and now need to put one on my truck. where is the tach and door lock wires? and any other wires i may need?

tach is on the speedo cluster (i want to say white), and for the door locks, use a DEI 457GW

Dido on the tach wire and the DEI unit will work too, but I recomend using the GM-SL module. I have heard the DEI module units have some problems and I have had no problems with my GM-SL.
The rest of the wires are pretty much in the main ignition harness. Go to the12volt.com and you should be able to find some good wiring info.

what is this GM-SL you speak of. and where can i get it

The GM-SL is an interface module, to bypass the security system, interface with the door locks and the parking lights.

I went to best buy to get a remote starter installed on my truck and they quoted me at $350minimun due to extra parts they need because my truck is a 06. I say rip off. I have installed one on my old honda beater. How much more difficult is an install on a 06 silverado? what units should I look at and brands should I avoid? what sites are helpful for wiring diagrams?

All of the installers are a rip off IMO, but I am really cheap and like to know its done right. The install is not very hard with basic wiring knowledge, but it does take a long time to do. I think and experienced installer can do it in like 4 hours, but it took me like double that. I am kind of slow and careful though.

I would stay away from Bulldog stuff it is cheap for a reason. I have an Autopage RS-620 in both of the vehicles in my sig and it works great. The DEI units (Viper, Python, Valet, Clifford, Horned, and a few others) are all generally good stuff. The are all made by the same company and that seems to be what most national chain audio places carry. I got mine new from ebay for like $60 each if I remember correctly, and then the bypass/interface module I got for about another $40. I used the GM-SL module in my truck and a module from bypasskit.com for my wife's car. They are both good units . I think the wiring for an 06 should still be the same as for my 03 so I will se if I can find my diagram's and post them up on here.

Here is the wiring. I can e-mail you a pdf of this if you need it. The wiring is the same from 2003-2006. I do have a ton of other diagrams available for other vehicles and years. You won't need to pay attention to the door lock wiring or parking light wiring that is all controled by the bypass module that work through though the purple wire on the OBDII plug.
