Default best amp for two 8" free air subs...

I have been out of the game for a while, and am putting all polk audio stuff in my G8 GT cause it fits nice and sounds great for the price. It has two stock 8" subs in the rear deck, and I am going to try some polk DB dvc subs to replace them. They are rated max of 360watts. I thought a 300 watt amp would do nice just to blend the sound nicely, and a 600 watter would push them to the max if needed. I dont think it is a good idea to push 600 watts thru them being free air use. I am wanting some suggestions on amp brands, and sizes. thanks

yes stick with the RMS wattage, also you need to figure out how many ohms the subs operate at before choosing your amp.

Why not put a small box for them in the trunk? I'm not a fan of free air subs. You can't push them hard at all.

Max watts are almost useless nowadays, as well as rms out put of amps. Rely on rms that the subs are rated at, and definitely buy more amp than less when it comes to matching rms to subs, because you won't do the rms that the amp advertises without a proper electrical system doing 14.4v, which isn't going to happen amp wise with what you're working with. Not many 8" free subs that are going to sound great, especially Polk's. Polk makes good components, but the subs aren't my favorite. If anything, do a box in the trunk or just run a good set of components up front on an amp, and pair those with a sub/box and just leave the rear stage. The rear deck is just not an ideal place for subs, with how it's laid out in those cars. Also, tons of better options are out there than the standard answer of "Kicker, JL, Rockford, Sony, blah blah." Although JL's evolution components are very impressive for mainstream audio.

rms are 180 watts each. so 360 watts mono. They have dual 4 ohm coils each, so 2 or 8ohms each then most likely 4ohms bridged. JL is nice, so is alpine.

These would be a nice little replacement for them not to big but just enough. run them with a JL amp and you will never regret it buddy. i had 4 w3v2's and was the clearest sound ive ever heard out of any brand.

These will sound good jammin to some bloodhound gang haha

Since you like Polk stuff, have you looked into their PA and PA-D series amps? I just picked up a PA-D5000.5 and a MM1040DVC to replace some stuff in my Tahoe. I read some good reviews on the new amps and I was shocked at how small it is (which was one of my requirements when shopping for the new amp). I considered the Alpine and JL digital amps but their architecture and footprint did not lend themselves to the 'hidden' installation I am looking to do.
