Aux in jack

hey guys,

wanted to try something but i figured i'd ask here to see if anyone has done it or has any info.

02 1500hd crew w/ stock head unit/cd feeding a alpine 4 channel into infinity speakers.

my center console has a tape deck that's never been used, the stock head unit doesn't have a aux in jack so i was thinking of trying to use the tape deck input to make an aux in jack to plug my mp3 player into.

seems like the tape deck should have a stereo line input to the head unit and the output from the mp3 player is just an audio signal so it should be able to read it. seems just a matter of figuring out which wires are the signal in wires to the head unit.

havn't figured out if the head unit is triggered to switch to to tape mode by the audio signal or another wire thats triggered when you put a tape in. not really an issue as i could put a switch to hot or ground whichever the case may be.

anyone have any advice or tried to do it and failed, a tape specific wiring diagram would be nice, alot to ask i know but ................

You need a peripheral pxgm12.
I messed around for hours trying to figure out the wires for the slave unit. Had no luck So you must have a slave unit ( Factory Tape player or cd changer) for the pxgm12 to work. Pie also makes one. It will run only one aux input where as the peripheral has two.
I use it for my mp3 and xm radio in my 99 blazer.
You can find it here. But I got mine off ebay cheaper.
installer.com then go to auxiliary inputs.
Oh ya you must have a tap in and playing for your stock hu to switch to tape

figures, thought it sounded too easy ;]

being the hardhead i am, i'm sure i'll have the dash apart this weekend trying to make it work.

if i happen to make it work, i'll post the solution here.

thanks for the link, e

One of my friends from school used to use that tape aux input, and it didnt sound bad at all. Whatever you do, dont go with one of those FM transmitter things...

Too bad someone doesn't sell an adapter for the stock head units for an AUX.

What about this? http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_...C+AAI-GM9.html

If you want to look at more of those products, on the navigation tree to the left of that site, it says "factory stereo integration" and then there are some sub categories.

TS77 is right.. Don't use those FM transmitter things. They sound terrible, and it was definitely not worth the money I paid for mine. Good luck

You said you had an amp... here is something else you could try. This is the first time ive ever seen this, so I dont know much about it.

Click view larger and other pictures right below the main picture to see more pics of the back inputs and such.

Im guessing you put the box close to your amp and wire the preamps through it then to your amp. Then you can run the wire to the control unit closer to the front or wherever you want. At $35 it may be something to try, although it will require a little more install time.
