Alienware was once the bet around. They even had a deal with intel to get the newest chipsets first. I am sure Dell has done good by them, but not the true cutting edge setup they once were. I am a big fan of Asus laptops. I currently own a 3 year old custom built HP that does okay. However, I am on my iPad or droid 90% of the time these days. The laptop is for tuning and little more.

Alot knows that you can prob build a custom unit for cheaper. I think you will be fine with that lap. . I have a dell from 5 years back, that i only recently upped the ram to 4, it rolls good as any. I don't game, for webbing it is just fine.

Yeah I looked at Alienware myself but went through Dell's business line and bought an XPS 15. The nice thing was I just bought it andwas allowed you to choose Windows 7 as my OS. Mine is Windows 7 Professional with XP compatibility. It's a nice machine........ but a retarded waste of money for me. I don't need a I7 processor, 16 GB or Ram or a 1TB hard drive to tune my trucks, lol. I honestly do most everything else on my Galaxy S3 lol.

I pretty much exclusively use my S3 for everything as well, but I am looking at getting another laptop since our current one has a charger malfunction that pretty much makes it stuck to the house (it is extremely difficult to get it to charge) and my wife is going to school.

I haven't heard anything good about Windows 8, but you can pick up Windows 7 for less than $100 and load it up.

I bought a m14x 500gHD 8g of ram I'm think it has a32 gig solid state, can't really remember of the top of my head. I love it. I had a Mac for 2 years and the hard drive failed so I decided to go back to windows. Windows is what I grew up on and am very familiar with the format. and it will run HP tuners

you might discover sound card problems, it acts like it can't read the card because I've installed several different drivers for it I still need to call dell and see what's up

not familiar with windows 8 so I got mine with 7

If you wanted something for normal use I would have looked at the Samsung Series 7 Chronos. That is pretty good. Plop a 512 GB SSD in there and you won't look at anything else. The HP Envy 17 is very nice and can be had for as little as $1000 for the good version. If you have the $$ get a macbook pro and then put Windows 8 on it.

Alienware/Dell have been really bad to me. I used to fix computers a lot for people and they always had the most problems with CD drives going bad/hard drives failing and motherboard issues.

Well the new laptop arrived and is up and running. This thing is freaking nice!!! Windows 8 is rather interesting to say the least. Once you get the hang of it, it is ok. Also once the 128gb SDD drive is configured correctly the laptop is insanely fast. I was running a full virus scan, defragmenting, copying over 50gif via wifi and still surfing the internet. I could not even tell all that bS was running. I am impressed.

Be careful to not defragment your ssd
