Default 08 GMC "Syclone" Sierra Turbo Build Thread

This is one of our shop projects that we have been using for R&D for our turbo kit, and we decided to make it into something pretty cool.

It started out as the definition of a "Dad truck". It had a
2 inch leveling kit, BFG All Terrain's, chrome running boards and Camoflage exhaust tips. We have since gave it a complete street truck makeover...

Lets start with the body. We could tell the right bedside had been replaced previously, and it was sketchy at best. We ripped both bedsides off as the left side was showing a little rust as well. We got replacement panels and while the bed was removed, we cleaned up the frame and everything else under the bed and re-coated it to protect it from rust. (It was pretty gnarly... see pictures) Once we got the bed back together we gathered up some other new body parts: Denali grill, paintable front bumper, rear bumper corners, and sent the truck off to have the whole thing re-painted the factory black. When it came back from paint we put some black housing head lights and led tail lights in.

For the suspension, we went with the McGaughy's 4/6 lowering kit and changed all the wear components at that time as well. The kit was very high quality and we were pleased with how well everything fit. The only complaint we had with the kit is the rear needs about another inch to be completely level. For wheels, we went with some gloss black Honeycomb reps in a 22 x 9 +30 offset and 265-40-22 Hankooks. We will have a different set with 17s and radials for when we take it to the track.

Now on to the go-fast goodies... We originally bought this truck to use for mockup on our turbo kit, so as you guessed,
its using our ultra high quality kit which you can find HERE. The kit includes a Precision Turbo LS-Series PT 7675 Turbocharger, Stainless Steel Tubular Exhaust Manifolds, Crossover pipe, and 4'' Downpipe, Precision 46mm V-band wastegate, Tial 50mm Blow off valve, Treadstone TR1245 4.5" Intercooler (Rated at 1000hp) Our Aluminum Intake and Intercooler piping with MAF provision, Vibrant Performance couplers and t-bolt clamps (black), Custom laser cut and formed intercooler brackets and hardware, Complete Custom AN oil feed/drain kit, Billet LS Oil feed adapter, LS Timing Cover Oil return, LS3/LS7 MAF Cartridge Style, GM 2 BAR MAP Sensor, Battery relocation kit, and Coolant expansion tank delete kit.
This kit is designed to bolt onto your truck with no modifications to the body and can be completely reversible.

The other supporting mods for the turbo kit are 65 LB injectors and a Walbro 525 LPH fuel pump. The drivetrain is completely stock at this time with the factory DOD cam, stock converter, and 4L60e.
We made 400
whp and 520 wtq on our mustang dyno on only 6 PSI. Within the next couple weeks we will be putting one or our Boost Prep long blocks in it with a stage 2 BTR turbo cam as well as a built 4l80e and E85 to see how far we can push it. We're hoping for 750-800 hp ultimately.

The only picture we have of it in stock form- at LS Fest this September

Pulled the bed off to find a disaster...

One bed side off, changed the inner fender wells too

Everything stripped off the frame, the frame was ground down to bare metal and then sprayed with rust preventer

Coated the whole thing in 3M Professional undercoat

New Wheels and tires ready to go

McGaughty's 4/6 kit, Unfortunately I didnt grab any pictures of it being installed...

Testing everything out while the bed was getting put together.

New GM bedsides for both sides

All the bed parts ready to be installed

Our tech Daryl isn't Exactly a body guy, but does an excellent job!

Bed is almost done!

All the tubing was fabbed by us, but we drew it up in solid works before we touched any tubing.

Got done with the bed and started working on the turbo kit some more

I wish i had more pictures of the exhaust side...

Got some more work done on the truck and it is back from paint and looking beautiful! The turbo kit is finalized, and production kits have started to be built!

During Paint

Had the bed lined while it was in paint too

Got the front end together with the 09+ lower bumper

This paint is like a mirror!

Got some Syclone badges cut out to continue the theme

Ended up taking the windshield banner off, it was just too much haha

Stay tuned as I will be adding more content as we Put one of our engines in it, e85, a built 4l80 and turn up the boost!

Cool project and great work!

I really like the idea of the rubber flooring in the lift bay. Is it durable/long lasting? I assume it's just laying on the floor and the cut outs for the lift keep it from moving around or is it adhered to the floor somehow?

Jeff, the mats hold up really well, they stay in place without any adhesion so we can clean under them as well. we have had them for about a year now with zero issues. Thanks for the compliments! more progress will be posted soon!

I don't hate it! If GM won't put out cool trucks like this at least we can build our own!
