Raise the idle speed or get the alt pulley. I ran that udp, it killed my alternator.

texasglock23 Nov 8, 2014 09:48 PM

No issues so far, no g8 guys complain about them killing an alt.

Put it in engineering mode and see what the volts are at idle. I've read and was told about not needing the alt pulley. Ended up needing one on my silverado and the g8. Ran/run both of them with a 25% udp.

I can also tell you the g8 ecm doesn't want to work with any other alternator than an ac delco.

Thanks, I'll check it out for sure!

I tried reading up on it before the purchase. From what I gather, the output is decent on the stock alt so most haven't had any issues. There is some dimming from time to time, and my passenger window rolls up a tad slower now. But only about half an inch slower than the driver.

I replaced mime due to the dreaded crank pulley wobble. Not necessarily for hp. My plan is to have this one rebuilt for cheaper than a replacement is, if needed. There's a local in Denton, Tx that rebuilds them.

zero2sixT Nov 10, 2014 02:35 AM

No problem man. I swapped out my crank pulley trying to chase down a weird noise. Ended up being the exhaust piping.

I couldn't get two different rebuilds to work. Ended up having to buy one from gmpartsdirect.

I miss my g8. It was a little run down from the previous owner. I had gotten close to having all the little b.s. stuff taken care of. My wife ran out of patience with it. I eventually gave in. Just got tired of the bitching.
