good trans builders in SE GA??

Is there any good trans builders in SE GA?? around Brunswick or Jesup or Valdosta or somewhere along that area? I built it before , and to my knowledge nothings wrong with it just the clip poped off one of the gears that holds the sunshell or something up, idk, I know what I'm refering to and posted it in the other thread I started in the tranny section but anyways, looking for someone else to fix it, I just dont have the time, but want it done right and not have to worry about it or second guess before I hit the loud pedal

Southern Performance in Lyons (right next to Vidalia), might be a good drive but Mike does seven or eight trans. a week and does a pretty good job. I've never heard any complaints.

02gmcbandit 11-01-2011 08:49 PM

thanks Ill check them out, thats only 2 hours away not bad . any other recommendations?

CC05 11-01-2011 09:47 PM

No other recommendations that I'd choose over Southern Performance, it's a little shop but it turns out a good bit of performance work. There's a trans. shop in Statesboro that I've known a few guys to take their transmissions to, but I can't think of the name right off hand.

I agree he is really good with building 60e and 80e's. He built a 80e for a buddies Whipple 6.0l truck and it has took a ton of abuse without a single problem. And he is really cool guy stands behind his work.

Mike@ Southern Performance does good work to and is a great guy, just don't have no personal experience with him with 60e and 80e's.

02gmcbandit 11-06-2011 07:37 PM

thats what I'm looking for is someone whos known for their work. not someone that can just do it. but I dont want to break the bank either. Ill give them some calls tomorrow and see what it sounds like, sold my daily driver today so HAVE to have the sierra back running because I am NOT riding my motorcycle in this cold for too long

Bad_Apple 11-06-2011 08:43 PM

I've got a FLT Level 5 4l65e with precision 3200-3400 stall with less 1000 miles. I would sell. It all does great just know I'm half go with a 4l80 with my next setup. It would be plenty strong for your setup.

well as I feared I had a shop do my trans and now have a weird feel when under WOT and a slight vibration. costed 1200 and now Im regreting it. soooo how much for that tranny? lol Im not sure if he just didnt build it right or what the deal is but I didnt have this feeling under WOT before so Im just assuming its the trans

i refuse to take my truck back to mike he hasnt done anything but fuck shit up

pillittokillit04 05-01-2012 07:56 PM

southern performance is trash I have had him rebuild my transmission 3 times and it never makes it over 12000 miles. I just had to take the one he just built out cause it took a trash on me again at 11486 miles and for what he charges to BUILD a transmission you can order one from FLT and get a better warranty and customer service. IF you take your truck there hope you have another ride it'll take at least 2 weeks and hope and pray it last!

CC05 05-01-2012 08:12 PM

:jest: That made me laugh. I had Mike put in my second motor (long story short, got through with some legal mess and it didn't cost me a dime), and I have to say he did a good job. That's coming from someone who does his own stuff, unless someone else is paying for it. Lately, I haven't really been around him, but I've never heard a complaint about his trans. work, until now. He's got 10 second street cars/trucks, running around daily on his work, and they've held up just fine. What kind of transmission do you have? Did he actually "build" it or "re-build" it? Go demand a refund if it's giving you that much trouble--forget fixing it. Also...what color is your truck? Might have seen it up there before.

pillittokillit04 05-02-2012 05:29 AM

4l60e and he said I couldn't break this one since I trashed his "600HP" kit last year. The point is I asked for him to build something good and damn sure payed for it and still came out with the same result broke shit

slowec 05-02-2012 06:25 AM

80E swap em or prepare to whine some more about broke crap later. Quit letting people sell you things they know won't hold. The 60e was built for granspa's truck.

pillittokillit04 05-02-2012 08:38 AM

I'm working on that next slowec damn a 60e

Well, there you go. 60E is the biggest paperweight you can throw money at. Don't fall for a built one if your truck has any weight to it, at all.

You're exactly right about the point, though. If you paid for a trans. that was supposed to hold up, even if it was a 60E, it should have held up. 80E w/ shift kit, FTW.
