Could check to see the casting number on the heads. I have a Vortec Max, which is a SS pretty much. I have 317 heads, so you should too.

Wouldn't your insurance company be able to tell you? Cuz wouldn't your rates be higher if it was a true SS.

If that's the real vin for the truck then im pretty sure it's a real SS, cause I think on a SSS you can count the letters and numbers on the vin and the 8th one should be N. but definitely file a report first then worry about it being an SSS or not.

^^^^This!!! Its much easier to explain your situation when you come on your own to an investigator etc. vs a police officer on the side of the road, if in fact the vehicle is stolen. But that being said.. There should be a vin stamped on the frame, and in your engine compartment somewhere, your auto theft investigator should be able to find it pretty quick and tell you if it's legit.

Thanks that is a great idea! Im getting my bother to talk to a lawyer to make surebi cant get the truck taken and still have to pay off my loan before i take any action. Dont get me wrong if it is stolen id love to give it back to it rightful owner. But i dont wanna be shitted outta 17k either

I hate to tell you but even with a lawyer, if that truck is stolen and you posses it, in texas you can be charged with possession of stolen property, the truck will be recovered and your **** out of luck... I would go ASAP and get this handled, I'd rather be free and out 17k than out 17k and locked up...
