heu guys just picked up this 200k mile 5.3 and tore it down to cam it new oil pump and freshen it up.Im wondering if I should get the cam bearings replaced or just leave them alone,I've read a couple threads where people get them replaced then have issues with there cams being too tight.any options or personal experience welcomed

 

Not sure about fitment issues but I would for surely change the cam bearings! I would get new bearings and when you have the cam slide the new bearings over the cam journals to check fitment before you install the bearings in the block.

 

ah ok thanks for the reply yea that sounds like a plan i was being cheap for a moment but reaslize I should just do it right the first time haha.

 

Dropped it off at the machine shop today he said 75 to install cam bearings and 105 to vat the block does that sound about right

 

Since the motor is out of the car the correct answer is to change the cam bearings. If you were just dropping a cam in an old truck for ***** and giggles then I would just run it like it is. Motor has to be out of the car to change the cam bearings.

 

300k on my 5.3. Did my cam with a whole top end rebuild and bearings looked better than that but still just ran them. 1500 or so miles its solid.

 

Damn that's badass I just got my block back from the machine shop time to order some parts hope this one last that long when I'm done with it
