poll: hood pins - yes or no
 

This is a function over form decision for me, but I hate the form of it lol...otherwise my vote would be hell no.


my heat exchanger sits a bit low in my 69 Camaro due to the stock hood latch taking up a good bit of real-estate behind the grill. with hood pins I can get 100% of the exchanger behind the grill instead of hidden partially behind the front bumper.


basically, keep the OEM hood look and deal with a little less flow, or put some pins on the hood and get the exchanger up into direct airflow. here is the car. you can see how the exchanger sits a little lower than I'd like due to the hood latch in the way.

I found these trick little hood latches that don't look as horrible as most that I've seen. they come in black too.

Looks like you have plenty of flow to me for a non all out HP build.. But thats just me..
I just got done putting aerocatch's on, they were a pia to install, those u picked look nice tho

Its a kenne bell 3600 with a iron 408 stroker. Meth injection with an eventual nitrous kit to cool things down. Streetable is the goal, but anyone that knows my builds knows my definition of streetable is stretched further than normal .

I am not opposed to hood pins but I am opposed to removing the hood latch and using them soley.

If the pins fail to latch properly or give way under power. It's a whole can of worms you don't want to deal with...

Agreed. On the same thought, there are cars that trap nearly 2x faster than us on Hood pins. Not street cars by any means though. Each pin is worth about 400lbs. Not sure what a stocker is worth

I looked at those too. a little larger than I like, and the install is a little more intense. 2 hole saws is all I would need for the quik latch.

I think the quik latch looks really nice, If you picked any other style of hood pin i'd vote against it

I think what fastbrick meant is without the stock latch youd have to make sure they both get latched or else good chance you would have a bad day going down the road.
Only reason i did mine is because im hacking all of the suppot out my stock one but also keeping it in the mix.
Not a mild setup at all just meant its not a all out racecar.
What about sizing out a thicker custom made piece for current setup and make it a win win keep stock latch and better exchanger, or is it possible to modify the stock latch enough to move it up and keep it and use pins?
wish i didnt need latches at all but like you i had function over form in my mind..
