Are you sure that the previous owner painted the dash? Only reason I ask is that mine is painted grey from the factory and it's been peeling for years, and it's black underneath. I don't have an answer for your original question though, sorry

Oh yea, so far I've been lucky that it's been peeling in spots that aren't highly visible...

well i guess it is factory then. I just figured it was painted because it was peeling and the truck isnt that old. so i guess i just kinda have to deal w/ it or what is the best way to strip this off just to black. i like that alot better.

From what I gather, the peeling dash is fairly common on the 99+ trucks. I would assume that trying to completely remove the finish would be pretty tough, as the paint would probably adhere better in some spots than others. I've considered it as an option myself, if and when my dash gets worse. The more that I've thought about it, seems like it would probably be easier to repaint the dash pad. I'm sure that someone here knows what color paint or dye matches since alot of guys have painted a-pillar guage pods to match

I agree with the above, I'd wipe the peeling areas with reducer and try to get a feather. Than wash the whole dash. Give the whole thing a coat of bulldog and then get SEM dye your color and shoot the black spots in and finally give the whole deal a full coat after you have coverage on the black spots.

ARMOR ALL does a great job at peeling paint from the dash on our trucks when the sun is hitting it directly!!

i used SEM plastic cleaner/prep and graphite paint/dye on my pillar pod and the match was dead nuts! shouldn't have any problems painting the whole dash with it.
