lowering question

I have a 04 Silverado (nonSS) with 20x8.5 centerlines (5" backspacing) and 275/55/20 tires. I seen a guy on SSsilverado.com who has the same wheel and tire combo I have and has his truck lowered 2" in the front and 3.5 in the rear and he has no problems. He has used McGaughy's spindles in the front and hangers and shackles in the rear. My question is, I know the SS is AWD, but is there something different that will allow an SS to be lowered with this wheel and tire combo and not a regular silverado? The shop around here told me that it couldn't be done with the combo I have. I think they were blowing smoke up my ass to get me to buy new wheels and tires. Any answers on this would be greatly appreciated.

Your tires are 31.91 inches tall so I doubt they would work unless you want to ride on the tires. The tires I used to run won't work either and they are only 31.4 inches tall. I know 275/45/20 will work, they are only 29.7" tall.

I have a 01 sierra with 22s and theyre 31.6" tall with a 2" drop on the front and 4" in the rear and all I had to do is roll that metal part of the fender in that come into the well and now its fine
