lowering the bumper for my HD conversion

How do u lower a bumper on a 99 silverado fr the HD conversion, i already have all the pieces but i heard i might need the brackets from an HD

I thought you just need the upper plastic for the 2500hd to get the grill to fit

If you're doing the full HD front end iirc you have to cut/weld the frame horns 1.5" lower, something like that.

You have to cut the welds on the brackets and re-weld them 1.5 inches lower. I just did it on my 1500 HD. I used a saws-all (can't spell) to cut the welds and it worked out perfectly. Take your time and mark your spots. Tac the welds and use a level to make sure they are in line.

scannon is right on. Mark the impact bars (brackets) in place BEFORE you remove them, then use a sawzall to cut the impact bars right where they are welded on at the frame horns. Using the previous mark, lower the impact bars 1 1/2 " and spot weld. Mount/mock up the bumper with the HD bumper cap installed to ensure proper fitment. If you likey, remove the bumper and weld up the impact bars.

A few other details. The bumper support brackets on the very ends (attached to the frame and bumper braces) will need to be modified because they will not line up with the old holes in the bumper braces (or buy new ones for an HD). Last but not least, and a pain, you may need to cut/notch the core support on the ends to allow for clearance of the left and right bumper brace bracket bolts (this will be very clear when you go to mount/mock up mount the bumper the mounting location points (very end and top of bumper) will possibly hit the core support).

just did this on my truck.
-cut the front of the frame off
-weld a steel plate on the remaining frame but make the plates long enough so they hang 2 or 3 inches down
-then put your cut frame pieces back on your bumper
-get a buddy or two to hold your bumper where its lined up where you want it
-tack it
-adjust
-weld
