Re: Lowering a 01 Silverado 4x4

Ive been trying to think of ways to lower my SS but there is no help from the aftermarket right now so im kind of on my own. The only bad thing about lowering the torsion bars more is that the ride will geteven worse. I have an idea but i havent done any research on it yet. It basically involves a 2" lift spindle and turning it upside down and then swapping sides. there will be a little more work involved but thats where im at right now

Here's a simple solution, take out the front coils and cut two coils off and just do a axle over in the rear. What ya might not be thinking of is that when you lower a 4x4 your more then likely going to need your driveshafts shorten, due to the lesser driveline angle and thus and shorter shaft. A good way to due it with the torsion's is modify your factory bump stops or by some lower profile bumps stops and that will help you mantain your factory ride and suspension travel.
Just a question but you said your taking out the block in the rear, why do you have a lift and now are wanting to lower?(just a ? no flames intended)

first, 4x4s dont have front coils, the driveshaft will be ok with only a 2" drop, that is a very mild drop, and the 4x4s have a 1.5" block in the rear stock

Cut the coils? Yeah, that's a safe way to go about it. :eyes:

Seriously, head over to Hotchkis Performance's website and check out thier 4X4 drop kits. If you're going to drop it do it the right way.

Well if i did that i'd have to get a bigazz wing and a folgers coffee can welded to my exhuast tip. :eyes:

I checked out Hotchkis and all they have for a 4x4 is a swaybar.

Thanks for the input

All hotckis makes is sway bars.

I have a few other ideas to lower mine. the best one is do get a set of coilovers for the front and ditch the torsion bars completely. also people have done a balljoint flip in order to get some drop. I dont know exactly how much work is involved in that but im looking into it
