Okay, you guy's out there with dropped front ends, via coil springs, how is your alignment? A "Sport Truck" shop told me the only way to drop it correctly is to replace upper and lower control arms. If you do it any other way, there is not adjustment to properly re-set the camber. (inward or outward tilt of the wheel)

Tons of you guys have said in this site that you've used coils on the front and shackles/hangers on the rear. What gives? How is your alignment?

Is there any difference between going with 3" coils versus 2" coils, besides the obvious 1" difference?

well I gotta 3" front drop. First time I did it, i used a straight coil from Belltech, and my truck rode like hell. If you have that short of a spring, it kills ur ride quality. I did have to get a re-alignment, but it was no big deal.

I now have a 2" drop spindle and 1" drop spring and i ride much better. When I took it to get an alignment though, I ended up having to cut my tie rods and had to get them re-laced, But I was told by the alignment shop that it was because I already had it tweaked from the coils... so I dunno.

In my opinion, the shop ur going to is trying to make a little extra cash. You can do a straight coil drop if you want, but I would advise against it beacuse of the ride quality. I suggest doing a spindle and coil setup if your doing anything lower than 2". If your only doin 2" use a drop spindle.

 

I have a 2" spring and I just went and got it aligned no prob. I may replace my entire suspension for a better ride someday, might do the spindle but I'm sure they cost quite a bit more then springs.

 

I have been running Hotchkis 2" coils for about two and a half years with no problems. Alignment is business as usual with them.

 

What ever you do don't go with a belltech spindle. I had a belltech 2" spindle and 4" shackle and hanger on mine about a year and half ago and it sucked. The spindle really cut down on my turning radius-always having to pull up and back up where I didn't before and you have to cut your tie rod end to line it up. I had mine on about a month before I took it off and sold the kit. I just ordered the hotchkis kit for mine.

 

With a good quality kit
there is not prob with setting caster, camber or toe
My 91 has a 2" coil spring drop
Never a problem
A good alignment shop should not have a problem.
Sounds like someone is trying to sell you something....
Try another alignment shop.

 

my thoughts exactly, i've done/ helped a friend with a 2/4 and there were no problems getting it alined.
