Bumper Splitters for Trucks?

5 Attachment(s)
Ok so some of you guys know me from posting the New Custom wing that i designed. Welp, some guys at from the Lightning Forum have quizzed me on a splitter and it didnt take me much for me to come up with one. I get that this might be "too much" or "too ricer" for some and if thats the case then thats cool but for those who might be interested or have thought about one, welp, you might be in luck. This is not a fiberglass "Lip", this is a big ass plate that covers the bottom of the bumper as a real splitter supposed to. I've seen a few trucks here and there trying to have some sort of a "Lip" on their truck but look a bit funny. Another reason why i decided to make a legit splitter that also acts as a lip. Take a look at my design and let me know what you guys think...Obviously its for a lightning but its enough to give you a rough idea.

-Made out of 3/16" Aluminum Plate
-Mounted to the Frame via 4 brackets and not the bumper
-4 Point Mount for quick and easy dismount
-Fully adjustable, Tilt down/up and Slide In/out
-Adjustment Rods are more or less for looks.

Ive had a few sparks of interests here and there along with some asking about making one for them but dont really seem to be 100% sure with the exception of one guy who seem pretty legit with his 2012 GMC.
Just want to see how much interest there is here.

I dig it on that lightning man! Looks damn good, not sure it would look as good on a gm tho.

And how exactly does it attach to the bottom of the bumper?

Thanks!
Its not attached to the bumper. Its attached to the frame.

Ahh gotcha. What about the two rods in front? Are they attached onto the body?

The Rods are attached to the bumper. But they are more or less just for looks. The Splitter can be supported without the adjustment rods

I really like it,but unsure if you can pull it off with a chevy/gmc...looks awsome on the lighting

What performance advantage does a mod light this offer?

TXsilverado 08-20-2016 09:45 AM

I always thought those things were for planting the front tires on a high powered fwd at high speed?

Bumper splitters for Trucks

Would be interested in one for my 2007 Silverado Classic and also my 2005 GMC Sierra. I use the 2007 (2006 Model Produced Before the NNBS Were Produced) for autocrossing and depending on the design would definitely be interested. Would be willing to work with you on the design!!

Besides the aggrisive look...It provides smoother aerodynamics In the front. By reducing tha drag under the front end of the truck. The lower the truck the more effeciant the splitter works. And to some extent, yes TXsilverado is correct. We got up to 135 in the Lightning before the splitter and he had a bit of a shimmy going on. Once we put the splitter on the shimmy was gone. My take from is that it reduced the drag from undernedth and pushed the front end down. Which is what general research has shown and proved.

Sure thing bud. Im actaully making one of my wings for a guy who also uses his Silverado for AutoX. Hes also going to get a splitter which i just started on. Ill shoot you a text.

I had very bad aero problems after about 135-140 mph with mine. Basic stock unmodified body 2006 rcsb. Mines a drag truck though so it is a little different app but still kind of on the same subject. At that time I was running a 29.5x10.5 ET Drag rear tire on a double bead locked 12" wheel. Around 140 mph it would just start spinning and I damn near lost complete control over the truck. One time even taking out the 1000', 1320' and 1320 mph cones at the track. The very next day I sent the truck back to the chassis shop and The Madman did me up a real nice carbon fiber bed cover and wing. I then switched to a 29.5x10.5 Stiff tire on the same wheel and the truck has run straight as an arrow every pass since. It has been as fast as 154 mph in the quarter and it was so smooth from that point on, the thing damn near drove it self.

I think the splitter thing looks cool as fuck in most applications. Haven't really seen one on a fullsize truck though so not sure if it would look out of place or not. I'm currently putting the truck back together with goal speed somewhere in the 165-170 mph range and was wondering if I could benefit (from a safety stand point and in the looks department) from a mod like this.

Blown06 08-21-2016 03:04 AM

I may need to clarify the statement above about it starting to spin at 140 mph. The driveshaft sensor was showing some spike in driveshaft speed indicating a loss in traction, but it was not drastic. Not like it was smoking the tires at 140 mph. It was mostly just getting the ass end of the truck very light and causing the thing to really start swaying around with the front still planted.

Before i created the splitter, irrad this articl and others similar to it. Your nore then welcome to read it. It will answer your questions abouts funtionality.... but in a short run, yes it will help with aerodynamics.

Depending on price i'd be interested! tried fabbing two myself already and couldnt get them to look right.

yea they can be tricky. Pricing will roughly be $380-$430 plus shipping for a custom splitter.

nitrousaddict 10-12-2016 08:29 AM

oh ok. definitely looks like the craftsmanship is up to that point, but still a bit out of my price range. love how it looks though.
