? about putting sub in 04 LT truck with boss stereo

My buddy just got a 04 ext. cab silverado with every option including boss stereo and on-star if I put the sub under the rear seat,
1 can I hook it into the head unit or do I need to get a new one
2 do you need to do anything special to change the head unit, I have heard before that you can't cange the ones with on 03 and newer
3 doesn't the boss already have some kind of sub in it if so what sould be done with that
thanks for the info

1. You will need a line level converter and a powered sub in order not to change the head unit and do it right without robing power elswhere.

2. The 03 and up stereos either need to relocated or a kit must be used.

3. Some do, some don't.

4. It's Bose, not boss. Boss is another aftermarket brand name that is pretty low end.

I'm not too sure what they did at the radio place, but I ran 2 10's with an amp off my factory head unit. No relocation of the head unit necessary

yes, it is possible to run an amp with subs off a factory headunit. need to splice into the rear speaker wires and route it to the amp. this usually takes the place of RCA cables. amps sometimes come with a wiring harness that plugs into the amp so you can attach the stock speaker wires to it. i heard the same thing about the 03+ trucks and their headunits too. not sure what is involved to get an aftermarket CD player in there

If you are using the On-Star option you can't change your head unit cause on star runs through the factory stereo, but like they said you can run a hi-lo convertor and hook up an amp and some subs.
