1 night 2 different Lightnings

Went to Memphis motorsports Friday night and got a little Lightning action. First one went 13.8 to my 12.42 and the second one went 13.3 to my 12.40@111.42mph. I don't know of any mods on the first one, but the second one had pulley, intake, exhaust, and dyno tune.
The temps were extremely hot, which is why we were all running so crappy. I'm probably not going to make it to the track again until it decides to cool off.
I also raced an older Mustang Cobra that blazed down the track to a 15.4. :jest: I would show that vid, but its pointless because you never get to see the mustang.

Vids will be up this week of both of them!!!!!!

Good kills!

4.8PWR 06-27-2005 12:20 PM

Hey Slow, I wish you'd raced that one that went 12.9 against my mighty 16 second pass, lol. Only reason I got paired with him was so the black gt and 2000 Silverado SS could run one another.

BigKID 06-27-2005 01:07 PM

Was that on motor or the gas??

SSCUSTOM6.0 06-27-2005 01:31 PM

great kill i love to hear and see the lighnting go down. where snobs after they lost to you like most ford lightning owners or were they pretty cool about it

FILE 06-27-2005 01:57 PM

motor would have handled both kenny but i think he used gas just to make it look worse. he said a kenne bell L was there but not doing that great since it was hot.

slowec 06-28-2005 01:23 PM

Goshawk23, Lets see you kill a L with that ext. cab. That would make a great vid.

He has one if he would ever send it to me so I can post it!!! :burn:

5.3 racer16 06-28-2005 04:21 PM

cool.

goshawk23 06-28-2005 10:28 PM

well, since i am doing nothing, i suppose i can load the cd up and mail it tomorrow.

charles5.4 06-29-2005 01:50 PM

Hey not all L owners are snobs....now hemi's...that's a different story lol. Good kills. That kb L has to have at least 425( on stock blocks and 6-8 lbs of boost) to the wheels so I'd watch it cause most have built blocks running high 11's low 12's....good kills non the less.

how do the KB L's handle the heat compared to the stock L's. It seems the stock ones get way slow for what they have when the temp gets over 85 degrees

charles5.4 06-29-2005 05:12 PM

Ya, I'm almost posative the eatons loose around 20-30rwhp!! You can feel the difference between the day and at night... the kb's are usually done w/built block(or tougher internals)so they don't see near the drop that the eaton produces.

slowprocess 06-29-2005 05:52 PM

I'm glad to see the lightning owners starting to appear in here, because I've always wanted to know more about them. The heat was absolutely killing everyones times. I saw the kb Lightning running around a 12.3 and I was consistently getting better as the night went on, so I was really trying to line up with him for some close action. I'm now ready for it to cool off and get some "real" times. :drive:

charles5.4 06-30-2005 01:21 AM

Sounds like you got a nice setup in that there chevy lol. I love fast trucks no matter what the brand...but I bleed blue oval sysmbols lol. That sounds about right on the kb... I'm not an expert by no means on that kinda setup, but they can be made reeeaalllyyy nasty.

Where exactly is down south? Sounds like you have a nice truck there.. got any pics?

charles5.4 06-30-2005 02:15 AM

Ft.Smith Arkansas(don't like to admit it very often), no pics yet...I'm trying to find some chicks to pose w/the truck. When I get them I'll definatly post.

-Brad

ridnlow 06-30-2005 03:28 AM

I hear ya on the chicks thing lol.. Arkansas cant be any worse than Alerbama.. I mean come on...

BigBronco 06-30-2005 10:18 AM

i would say watch out.. I was in San Antonio for business yesterday, before coming back to houston for some other things... But anyways, Mike Murrilo was finishing up a Lightning. It made 800 rwhp with a kb and a little bit of spray HA!!

charles5.4 06-30-2005 02:23 PM

Like I said they can be made to be uncontrollable beastslol...there are some pretty good looking ladies around, but non that are willing to strip down(with the camera on)...I'll work on that this weekend. My buddy just got an slk 320 hardtop convertible....now that car will bring in the chicks. We just haven't really tried yet. I'll get some pics of the L and the Benz and post within a week or two. :drive:

Oh yeah and I bet the torque numbers for that kb was over 900ftlbs...that's f-ing nuts. That's what I love about the L's. I picked mine up in Chicago IL set the cruise at 80 and it never shifted down once the whole way home... and if you've ever been through fayettville AR you know what kinda hills and mountains you have to climb. Ford did a hell of a job on this truck and I realize it more so after I got it and drove it then when I just looked at the performance numbers and specs.

goshawk23 06-30-2005 08:49 PM

Charles, what year did they start putting the blowers on? i thought the late 90's models were all motor and like 02 or something they started with the F/I. clear this up for me if you don't mind.

charles5.4 07-01-2005 11:26 AM

If your talking bout the Lightning....93-95 was the box style truck w/a 351 I beleive 240or260 hp they took a few years off and then svt came back in '99(newer body style) w/the 5.4l supercharged and intercooled 360(underated I'll add) hp and 430ft. bounds of torque...then in 2001 they made a few changes(went to a 90mm instead of an 80 and got all the kinks out of it(intercooler recall and plug threads along w/different heads)) and form '01-04 they have 380hp and 440lbft(also underrated) the only difference between the 99 and 00 compared to the 01-04's are the headlights and a few wheel changes in the 6 years. Most guys are dynoing bone stock between 320-355rwhp w/the 01 -04's and the 99-00 L's are dynoing anywere from 310-340rwhp bone stock....w/about 1k in mods every L is running high 12's and is in the 400-500 club(400rwhp and 500lb ft) on an everyday conservative tune. Anything else :)

That's about dead on with the no's. I baselined 358/433 stock at 65,xxx miles. At our tune session we had for our club two weeks ago, most people with 4 lb pullies/cai/catbacks/sb throttle bodies/(there were more heavily modded trucks there, but the listed are amongst the most common mods it seems) were putting down 380-400/480-500 and that was in 90 degree Kansas heat.

There were a few more diff in the years btwn the 99-00/01-04. Bigger d/s and diff gears in the rearend (3.55 vs 3.73, respectively). Most other things were minor cosmetics. Ya gotta watch these L's, stock one's are getting harder to find. Granted, we lose a lot compared to you N/A guys in the heat, on a cool night some of these things can be scary (waiting for SVT_Scott to pipe up on this thread).

charles5.4 07-04-2005 07:37 PM

Alright another L guy on here...I must say I'm starting to hang out here not quite as much but just about as much as on the L boards...I've been researching a lot on the Lightnings and finally got one about 2months ago and I love it...the numbers that I told where just what I've heard from regularly(no personal dyno experience). I love running these things at night....there's a big difference. I haven't ever dynoed the difference, but I guestemated between 15-30rwhp loss from 100 degrees to 75 or 65...

203Cree 07-04-2005 07:48 PM

well, to give an idea of how bad heat sink hurt us, I lost 8 hp and 17 ftlbs of tq in three pulls, and that was on a day when the ambient temp was like 55 deg. That was in THREE pulls, 1 min btwn each run. Think of what 85-95 degrees would do.

02sierraz71_5.3 07-04-2005 11:43 PM

either of you guys running big intercoolers or some injection?

I was gonna get a lightning before I got my z71 great trucks :thumb:

ridnlow 07-04-2005 11:44 PM

It could be 200 degrees and I wouldnt have a chance against you guys lol.. I love those trucks though.. definetely one of my favorites..

I'm not. I'm basically stock minus a CAI and Exhaust. That won't be the case for much longer tho.

What color is your truck? I'm in Ft. Smith too (Pocola actually but work in the fort) good to know there is actually another truck owner in this town that is "performance minded". Ever run at Sallisaw, Centerville or Tulsa? What times are you running?

My truck is black and dropped 4" in the back and 3" in front other than that and some subs ect. I'm completely stock, but I have a cai, pulley, and chip about to be on the way. I plan on heading down to centerville to run when I get the performance parts. I am trying to get a little meet up w/a bunch of guys sometime in the near future just to shoot the shit if you have any buddies around there that would be interested. As I'm sure you know a bunch of people "cruise" rogers on Fri. and Sat. nights I'm not into the cruising too much(maybe twice a month) and I've met a few guys that would like to go on a road trip or something to Hooters or somewhere to hang out. Let me know if your interested.

Sounds like a good time, let me know when/where. I'm with ya on "cruisin Rogers", too many stupid a$$ kids wanting to throw revs at the light and I have a real problem with declining a challenge but the cops are EVERYWHERE! As for running when you get your parts in, Centerville is a hoot and I love going there, but Tulsa has an awesome 1320' track and a lot of street cars on TNT nights, just something to think about.

Do you have a Superman decal on rear window?

hookem02 07-07-2005 11:53 AM

hey guys, 203cree whats up man?

Another Lightning owner, well, not anymore, but was a lightning owner. You can see in the sig, mine put up pretty good numbers with just a chip+tune, CAI, exhaust and 4lb lower pulley... On nice crisp days i would see up to 14-15 lbs of boost, so it was pretty sweet.

I ran high 12's, but here where in live in KS there weren't very many performance trucks around. It kinda sucked. We have 2 cummins diesels, one with smoke staks.
