Problem with friend's Dakota.
Friend of mine was driving to work one day and the truck just started back firing, popping, and having no power. He gave me the list of codes and they were all misfires, but they were only cylinder 1, 3, 5 (6 cylinder engine). i can't seem to figure out what it could be other than a clogged catalytic converter. I thought it would be something were there is one for each bank, but just cant come up with anything. Any input is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. Tim

I sell a few coils here and there for those things at the salvage yard i work at, but I would think that would not be cyl specific, but elec stuff does funny things. Check pin connections at the pcm, sometimes if the snap on plug cover is off corrosion gets in there and wreaks havoc. has he done any work to it recently, or this just start up for no reason?

As far as I know, he hasn't done anything to it, just started doing it on his way to work one day. The truck is completely stock and he doesn't beat on the thing, just drives back and forth with it. He asked me about it and I was stumped. He spoke of taking it to the dealership, but if I can, I'd rather help out, then him get ripped off there. I still haven't actually seen or heard the truck yet, but I'll have to check the coils, spark, and connectors.

he has the known plenum leak that all magnum motors are known for , you have to look down the throttle body for oil, if therre is you have to fix the gasket/pan . it sits inbetween the manifold and the block and have to go to hughesengines.com and get a new one . http://www.hughesengines.com/Index/p...p?partid=26190

unfortunately, I don't have the truck here to look at right now, but I will definately check out the plenum thing. Would that make misfires on one side only?
