5.2 98 dakota vs 01 5.3 chevy

my friend just got a lowered 01 chevy truck 1500 with the 5.3 and auto trans 45k miles has exhaust. he wanted a piece of the old cast iron brick they call the 318. the trucks are pretty evenly matched other than mine having 3 times the amount off miles. he has a LSD rearend and i dont, he has 3.73 gears and i have 3.55s.

the first race i had him to 60mph by a truck length but than the 230hp the 318 makes vs the 295hp the 5.3 makes, he begins to pull on me, i still beat him though. we 1/4 his truck on the G-tech and he ran a fastest of 15.65 at 86mph and a constant 15.9 after that. my truck runs 15.8 at 87mph. he is lucky cause he can launch his truck 2000rpm and the tires hook. i have to launch mine a 1200rpm and give it half throttle till 10mph before flooring it.

chevy 5.3 all aluminum 295hp 325tq 4x2
dodge 5.2 all cast iron 230hp 300tq 4x2
my truck is lighter by about a hundred pounds.

I take it both of these are single cab? If so he should be running low 15's, good kill though.

bluecajun5.3 01-22-2006 10:48 AM

01 5.3 is a cast iron block w/aluminum heads that has 285hp/325tq.
do a lil reseach first. oh, good race by the way...

Tool 01-22-2006 12:15 PM

both trucks are club cabs. sorry i thought that they were all aluminum. what year did they make them all aluminum? his truck runs really good and he doesnt break traction off the line like i do. now the race is on between me and him. he has one win and i have one so were even. i was just happy he didnt rip my doors off and the 5.2 still has the power to run with the new bread of motors. :drive:

All 5.3's have cast iron blocks no matter what year...unless you get the HO 5.3 option. You could only get them on extended cab 4X4 trucks.

Wow. That's good to know. Hopefully they've figured this out over the last year and a half. THAT HOW OLD THIS POST IS :gruffy:

theres no way a ecsb silverado is ONLY 100 lbs heavier than an ecsb dakota...

wastedrubber 01-25-2009 10:17 PM

That doesn't sound remotely right, knock a 1000 lbs off that and I could believe it. My 95 RCSB v8 dak was 3400 lbs and I thought that was a pig compared to all my buddies 5.0 notch backs. I'd kill to get my Ram within a 1000 lbs of that lol My rcsb 2wd ram is around 4800 lbs, no way your dak is the same. Scales were way off the day you were there

Black5.9R/T 01-30-2009 07:28 AM

i don't know how wrong it can be. i payed to way it at a MFA truck scale. and they have to be accurate because they weigh grain on incoming and out going trucks all day.

my dakota is the R/T also. i don't positivally know but i think they are heaver. bigger engine, heaver duty suspension, bigger wheels and tires, huge rear end.

i might go do it again tomorrow to recheck though
