not the usual project that everybody is posting on here, but i'm big into the ls power stuff, so this is the place to be for that, that should give a clue as to whats coming.
this is kindof a combination of a couple trucks over the last 10 years or more, i'll post some back history of the original 1980 c10 that eventually became a donor of sorts to the current 1979 c10.
Started out with the 1980 just out of high school, was a long box with a terrible back yard paint job, and a barn burner of a olds 403 which was in place of the original diesel the truck was born with. lowered it 5/7 and some steel white cragars, and man was i hot shit!
few years later started playin with bags, cut up the frame, z'd the front, layed out, and cut the box down to a short box.
during that time i built a pretty hot 350, alum performer rpm heads, budget performance bottom end cast crank, hyper pistons, had around 11.0-1 comp, big retrofit roller cam, made lots of noise anyways, I have no idea what it made for power, but i'm sure it was no boat anchor anyways.
but after a while i felt i had really hacked up this poor old girl, so it was time to go to the crusher, I'll be honest I didn't do a very good job of the frame work and i wanted to start over. so off came a bunch of the good parts and sold the engine and some little things to fund the replacement 79 scottsdale

I never did have any pics of when i was younger these are from almost 10 years ago
primered black, looked good from a far, but you'll notice the body lines are a little off from my poor frame work. drove okay though, burn't rubber of good through 3 gears of a well built 700r4 and a 3500 stall convertor.

then this came along, high milage work truck from my wifes company, shes now the accounting controller at, so lets just say i have access to a fleet of old trucks with 6.0l in them. I'm not scared of the miles, we've all seen how these ls engines live with abuse.
this was actually in the 80 for a little while, thats where i learned about cutting up the original harness and doing the basic tuning with efilive.
also had to convert the 4l80e to a 2wd from a 4wd, although it never made it into the truck, ended up selling it as a core for what i had invested in buying the donor truck!

so a number of years later, not much time or money for play things, you know the grown up stuff in the way, married, house, new car payments, 2 children. and doing a few paint projects for my parents and their company fleet vehicles, usually keeps me tied up for a few months at a time. I'll post a few of my fathers 98 c1500 that I've painted twice over my lifetime, first time when i was actually a collision tech (i am red seal certified, now a parts counterperson for the last 10 years), and from a couple years ago, cleaning up the cheap work I/we did at the shithole shop i worked at in my early years.

k so i thought i had some pics from when i got it, but maybe not. its back there in behind the 73 vette i striped and sprayed for my neighbor.
anyways this truck started out at a 3/4 2wd long box with a great running 350 and a th400, was in pretty decent shape, and i knew a bunch of the shitty parts were coming off of it anyways. actually more to the story was this purchase came with a second k10 truck with a warmed up 350 and nothing but rust, oh well didn't care, i actually made a good bit of cash parting out the two trucks, then crushing the remainder for scrap, although my neighbors may have thought i was starting a scrap yard. At one point i had 6 trucks of various years all in the driveway, when it rained, it looked like the a certain environmental disaster of recent times.
i started with cutting the frame down to a shorty, got a sweet deal somehow from a guy about 100km's from here for the complete box assembly, with recent work done to it, so i hardly had to touch it.
used the cowl hood from the previous truck, had to patch in where it was cut for the clearance for the old 350 with giant intake and carb on it, used one original fender and another gm original fender from another truck scrapped. painted the inner fenders and fenderwells

beginings of paint

so I knew right from the start of this project that i was going to do a patina style paint. As a trained body man this goes against everything i'm programed to do, as in make it perfect and straight and nice and shiny. But one thing that drives me nuts is when something is painted well but nothing else is done such at new trim, wheels, extra attention to detailing under hood, etc... well, i don't have the cash for new everything, and my plan is to drive the shit out of this thing and not care so much about it, so the patina style is the plan, or fauxtina as it may also be called. if you don't like the fake look, and to be honest neither do I, i don't care, i'm gonna give it a try

k so by this time it allready has the 6.0l in it, sorry no pics of it going in, to much beer drinking while working, i can't take pictures, and hold a beer, and work at the same time, gotta put one thing down, pretty straight forward, trans dapt adaptors, 6.0l bolts directly up to the oldschool 700r4 that i poured too much money in a long time ago to let go, so it stayed.
the engine got a quick clean up, some pacesetter headers for a gmt800 platform, and scabbed together the original donor truck intake with a big kn filter, efi live tune and thats it. later on a fast ez efi 2.0 came along cause i wanted the self tuning, and nitrous capable, honestly i won't do that again, I'll get to that in a minute as to why.

friend of mine does a replacement engine for a guy, 5.3 lc9 from a 2010, been through a big puddle, dosn't seem to be running well, does a pull out replacement for him, supplier dosn't want the core back, i'm all over it like white on rice. 243 heads nnbs intake and flex fuel injectors. As you can see, not gonna be using the bottom end on this baby, last time i checked, rods are not suposed to look like that!

heads and cam

so now its about a year later, stuff still hasn't moved very far, managed to scare up enough cash for a cam. started a new job working the parts counter at our local chevy dealer, got a good deal on a howards version of the gm performance asa grind. I know there are way better cams out there, but price was right, and these are supposed to be designed to be easy on the valve train, thats what i tell myself so i can sleep at night anyways, save the comments about it, I know it's not the best choice. anyways, parts are now somewhat cheaper to procure than before, so i get some new head gaskets and bolts and what not, so off with the 317's, on with the 243s and injectors, the nnbs intake will have to wait till i do something for a throttle body before that gets swapped.
