Something Different, Something Fresh: My version of an AMA Outdoor National Race Bike
This isn't my bike, but I did and am doing the majority of the work on it. Quick background on the owner, typical dirt bike guy with deep pockets. Every 2 years or so he buys a new 450 kind of guy. Right now his regular ride is some kind of 2015 factory third edition KTM 450 or something.......in other words, the most expensive dirtbike on the market, but for a good reason. The thing is insane.
Background on the project. About 2 years ago the dude approached me about building a bike that he could go out and ride trails with his buddies. Not wanting to put that kind of wear on his race bikes, he opted for a 2006 Suzuki RM250 that he found on CL or something. Anyway, brings it home, bike seems in good working order, somewhat clean whatever. He brings it over and says "all it needs is fork seals, a new top end, sprockets/chain, tires and small **** to get it trails ready. Needless to say, every time I loosened a bolt, I found something wrong......which eventually lead to doing an all out show quality race bike. What little I remember, full Factory Connection Suspension, Complete engine build with "woods" port work, new crank, rod, piston and various worn out transmission parts, high compression head, Lectron carb, exhaust and on and on until he was around $12k in parts alone. Got the bike together and it turned out amazing. He's been riding it for 2 years now and is ready for more, so we decided on an another complete tear down and upgrading everything again.......this time improving on things to make it more track friendly.....so much for trail riding....lol I love it!

Now on to Version 2.0
I'm gonna post in much greater detail on all the things that were changed with lots of pics as the bike it turning out to be beyond "magazine quality". Bigger motor, crazy coatings throughout, and general upgrades for more power, less weight and and just a straight up gangster attitude.
In the following days, I'll be posting tons of more specific pics with detailed descriptions. There is no doubt it will be one of the sickest 2006-2008 RM250's on the planet.
So for all you dirt bike guys, follow along cause Version 2.0 is gonna be off the charts beast mode.

Nice, not a fan of the yellow tho think a flat black would look killer on that.
So what exactly is this used for? Don't know anything about dirt bike tracks.

He's mostly a casual/armature motocross/supercross track rider. Every now and then he will race some of the amature events at his local track (3 palms just North of Houston Texas).
The main reason for the thread is just to get some new content flowing around here for fun (the official build thread will be posted on some of the dirt bike forums). The secondary reason for the thread is to showcase some of the other stuff that I do besides motosports projects with 4 wheels.
The newest version will strictly be set up for outdoor type tracks and I'm sure also to have another gem in the garage for his buddies to come over and drink beer and talk about dirt bike ****. Hell this version could end up being a conversation piece (like expensive wall mount art) in the living room of his house.

You tore apart the bottom end... again? After only 2 years of riding? Those two strokes don't care how hard you beat on them, they can take it.
I've got a 1988 Trx 250r and after 28 years the bottom end is still strong and all original. Just port the top end and you will make gobs of power. Get a bigger top end and you can wipe the floor with any 4 stroke out there.
Is he getting a new cylinder for it? Might as well go 310cc+, the torque would be plain nasty. I'd also look at getting a smart carb, I've read some real good reviews on them.
Anyway, thanks for posting, its a beautiful bike. I've got a real soft spot for anything 2 stroke, there just isnt anything else like that powerband
