Pulled it on the lift yesterday afternoon at my folks. Was going to do some maintenance today. My recently rebuilt 4L60E loses reverse... F it! Not spending another dime on it. Heading over now to rip out the engine and transmission. Deconstruction pictures to follow. The six liter and 80E are about 99% ready to go in.

Keeps losing reverse? Sounds like a sunshell issue...

And today it had reverse... I figured that I would try it for ***** and giggles. I pulled the transmission out in about an hour and fifteen minutes. Fluid isn't brown or black, but smells slightly burnt. The trans temp was around 200* on the gauge yesterday when it wouldn't move in reverse. Converter wasn't locking either.

I am going to get a remanned converter and stick it in my dad's Sierra. The sunshell broke in his truck last Sunday. I'll see what it does. If it's not 100% right, it's going back to the shop that rebuilt it. I don't want anything more to do with it.

Going to do the last few things on my six liter tomorrow. I started prepping to pull the 4.8 next weekend.

My dad needs his truck, trying to help him out in the process. His transmission breaking was an unpleasant surprise. The same shop rebuilt his transmission about 20K miles ago. I plan on placing his transmission in the bed of his truck so they have both at the same time. I feel that a rebuild in a stock truck should last way longer than 20K miles.

I really need to buy some tools and a DVD/manual - so I can start rebuilding my own. I really don't trust anyone anymore. I hope my 80E doesn't give me trouble any time soon. The prices I've seen to rebuild one of those is obscene.
