Default Putting an LSx in a Toyota Tacoma ???

So i want to put some sort of LS motor in my tacoma, either a 4l60 or 4l80 and not sure on the transfer case. Probably whatever comes out of the donor truck. Question is, what should i go for? LQ9 or just a 5.3 or should i go for a ls1 or ls2? Im pretty much fabbing the motor mounts and tranny crossmember and stuff so thats not a huge issue but here is the main concern: I want something that makes good power on a stock tune.

I currently have a 3.4 s/c, made 234rwhp with 37" tires on it, but ideally i would like to make 320rwhp or more. Not sure thats quite possibly with a relatively stock motor but any one have any thoughts?

If i got a 6.0 from a 4wd with the pcm and harness and all the goods from the same truck, throw it in the tacoma, put a programmer on it to set the tire size and gear ratio (40" tires and 5.29 gears), put like some minor bolt ons like air intake and headers on it.... would it run like it should with the factory PCM??

Im trying to avoid tuning it is my biggest thing, because the tune bounces around alot in 4hi, 4lo, 2hi, 2lo that its a pain in the ***. So i thought if i could keep a stock 4wd PCM tune, it would work pretty good?

If custom tuning is reallly my best option, then ill just do a HCI ls1 with a fresh block and make some real power.

Any thoughts are greatly appreciated, thanks!

so you're wanting some real power, huh?

if money is no problem, you'll get the most stock power from an LS2, but your best & easiest bet would be to find a 3/4 ton & pull the LQ4 along with the 4L80e & transfer case. the iron block will be better if you're planning on slapping a S/C on it. as for the tune, go ahead & get a custom tune & make sure the PCM don't bounce around. if you're custom fabbing stuff to make the powertrain fit, i'd say you're capable of making sure the computer don't move.

Rarely are people ever satisfied so I would suggest the iron block 6L that way you can always add more as your needs get higher.
Sounds like a fun project though...what year tacoma?
