whoa... gotta play catch-up

Sep 2014 (200k mi) = 4.30s + TrueTrac, along with replacing the factory fuel pump
Mar-Jul 2017 (220k mi) = replaced clutch & stock trans / t-case (synchros & gears wore pretty bad, t-case input had about 1/8" play & grinding while coasting). also did a Dynomax dual side-exit exhaust which sounds so much better than a chambered muffler.
Mar 2018 (233k mi) = BTR stage 3eco cam (219/224 .551/.551 113+3). this cam definitely made me glad i did the gears 'cause even lightly putting around town feels more comfortable above 1500rpm. still refining the tune (timeline got dragged out because i got married in May & took a couple weeks out of town), but it sounds great & pulls hard all the way up. can't say i've lit the tires punching it up an on-ramp before... at least not with the 33s on a hot dry day.

yeah... photobucket's being queer & i don't feel like going back & fixing everything again
and the way i know i married a keeper is that she wanted to leave the wedding in the truck (instead of the car) because the cam sounds better.
but she loves going to the vette club meets & begs me to 'catch up & pass' fast cars that go by us on the highway.
shoot, we're looking to get her a different car next year - she's strongly considering a CTS-V... and letting me tinker with it

alrighty - time for a sanity check, please.
besides me knowing i lost my marbles being in a hurry for work the next day & pulling a 6700lb trailer @ 70mph... in 5th... even up the mountains between Tucson & North Juarez (as best i could) as i headed back toward Dallas last weekend - which resulted in my poor nv3500 that's done me so good all these years (and by 'all these years', it was a replaced with a new one 2.5yrs & 29kmi ago ) sounding like an old Folgers can swirling marbles in every gear except 4th epic fail, indeed!

so now that i gotta do something about it, i'm pulling the trigger on a 4500 swap. talking to a couple folks who've done it, it's supposedly a 1:1 swap from the 3500.
i'm currently tracking i'll need these things for my '99 Sierra (with '01 LM7/5.3):
  • '01-02 6.0 flywheel & bolts (because the '99-00 are impossible to find & were offset for the weird 4.8/6.0 crank length anyway)
  • '01-02 6.0 clutch to match the flywheel alignment pins (which the LuK number is same as '99-00)
  • '99-00 slave to match the hydraulic line length of my '99 clutch master cylinder (GM 15033924); '01-02 looks shorter, and '03+ reversed the line connectors.
  • stock 6.0 nv4500 bellhousing
  • 96+ (late-model) GM version nv4500 with a reverse switch... being a 1/2 ton, not needing any extra bells/whistles (cryo treatment, etc), but i did get an offer for discounted PTO expansion oil coolers
i've read multiple places that the trans crossmember lines right up & that the stock 1/2 ton NP261 t-case will bolt right on (no new input shaft needed). i'm also told the stock driveshafts will be the right length, and that the nv3500 shifter actually works on it, too. the biggest part is swapping the reverse switch wiring.

does all this check out? i just want to make sure i'm doing this right & starting with all the right parts so as to not prolong the downtime. thanks guys!

Weren't we just arguing a few months ago over the fact an NV3500 is really tough a survived a 8.1 with a turbo for years.

Just teasing! I was sorta clueless about the differences between 99-00 and the rest of the GMT-800 population good information here so far!

What PTO coolers are you referring to? I have the Fast brand ones on my RCSB.

haha... a turbo 8.1 in a 2wd RCSB without a trailer
and yeah, he said a guy ordered some FastCoolers but changed his mind, so now they're just sitting on his shelf. i looked them up, and they look like yours & claim 30° fluid temp reduction.

I don't have a trans temp gauge to tell if they work but I think the science on those are simple enough to understand lol.

So I searched my bell housing and this is what I found for you. Also included are 2 terrible pictures of the T case connecting to the NV4500.

thanks man. i reckon i've just been skeptical of my NP261 having a 32spline input... and it's gonna SUCK if it don't because i also replaced that one a couple months after the trans.

so i pulled the trigger on a trans today. comes with the reverse switch & a GM bellhousing. opted to forego the shifter & trans coolers he offered.
just ordered a 2001 6.0 flywheel & clutch with a 2000 slave cyl.

call me paranoid, but the trans shop said they have 32spline input shafts they can drop ship if it comes to that.

fingers crossed
