Lol! Cant wait. That cam plain works. I have no problem in the lovely DFW traffic. Yeah, its a little rumpity, and yeah its a little loud. I don't mind.

Cold starts sound like Slayer asked you to turn their music into a camshaft!

Im sure your truck just got a whole lot more fun to drive even if it is way more blower than that 4.great needs.
I dig that '90. Brings back memories. I had a '92 as my first ride. Loved it. Have a tattoo of it. I'd love to get into one of those 199x 454ss trucks. There was a dude on here who had a beautiful one!

Yeah man. I woke up smiling last night. Took a while to go back to bed!

I've been bothered by the valvetrain noise in this thing since all the changes. I haven't ridden in an LS vehicle with aftermarket valvetrain, so I have no idea if what I'm hearing is normal or a problem. I measured with a length checker before going with 7.350" pushrods. I had to change plugs and decided to revisit the pushrods. I got the exact same measurement this time around.

The checker measured 7.250"-7.260" and I added .084" for preload. This put me at 7.334" total length. I rounded up to 7.350" and tossed them in. Total preload is .1"

I realize the noise could be from being too tight instead of too loose. However, I rolled many pushrods across a granite counter and they rolled nice and smooth. I'm confident I don't have any bent pushrods. I turned the engine over to the cams base circle to double check for loose rockers, none were loose. I don't know whether to make heads or tails of this.

I'm running Brian Tooley LS7 slow leakdown lifters. Comp pushrods. Brian Tooley trunion upgraded rockers. Cam Motion cam.

If anyone has any ideas, I'm all ears.

I've driven the truck every day this week. The valvetrain noise is still there. No better, no worse. I'm going to spin on a new filter this weekend and cut open the current one. Hopefully everything looks tight.

This thing is a lot of fun! We scored our first kill today! It was against a turbo v6 raptor. We both took off with purpose. I rolled into it 3/4 and pulled away with ease. I need to start taking my go pro with me. There's usually a good drag race onto the highway!

Why so much preload?

I was under the impression on traditional LS7 lifters the goal was to shoot for .060 Preload.
What does BTR recommend for there slow leak LS7 lifters?
What valve springs are you running???

So it looks like BTR discontinued these due to inconsistent leak rates. The recomended preload was from .035 to .075. Try a shorter pushrod and see if the noise goes away. I would shoot for .050 to .060 range.

LS1Tech - BTR slow leak down rate lifters. Discontinued
LS1Tech - BTR slow leak down rate lifters. Recommended Preload
Thanks for the heads up. I'll give that a shot.
