Finally -- New project truck!

Recently sold the manual conversion Yukon and finally jumped into a new project. Great looking rust free vehicle I got out of GA. 2003 Sierra Denali with Q Steer and short bed. The Q steer makes a HUGE difference in DC. Really makes life so much easier. The Polo Green color is growing on me. Original plan was to drop in a supercharger but couldn't find one used and didn't want to wait any longer. Probably going to keep this one "fairly" stock. Sitting in a lot more traffic now that they changed the HOV lanes into toll lanes the traffic got a lot worse and want to keep it street able. Want to see how well the NVG149 does in the snow. The BW open diff unit was a complete let down in Mid-Atlantic winters. I got stuck several times on snow/ice.

Mods to this date:
LS3 heads, stock heads with stock springs
L92 intake with L92 4 bolt TB. (gold blade x link)
Tick Performance TorqueMax St 2 (TRUCK version)
LS6 valley cover
4 HI PCB mod (all lights on with high beams)
Electric fans
Morimoto 4K HID kit
Denali branded LED foglights
Trucool 4K tranny cooler
WeatherTech floor mats and don't forget the smokers vents even though I don't smoke.
Keeping the stock exhaust so far. The VA emissions inspection is getting worse by the year.

BTW had a good scare on this install. Drivers side head. Set the initial torque on all of the design 1 bolts. Got to #10 back corner short bolt up against the fire wall. Bolt was set to 22 ft/lb. Turned it 90 and it tightened up a bit then came 45 more and it was loose and kept turning. 100% sure I stripped it because it was a short bolt and maybe I over did it. Panicked for a good couple of hours. Pulled the bolt and then looked at it. Realized that the threads didn't look used. Ran a chase down the hole and blew it out. Bunch of dirt came up. It was just some dirt that gave a false reading. WHEW! Must have forgotten to run the chase down that hole before popping the heads on! Good lesson learned!

How do you like the Tick SNS camshaft? That cam was on my short list when I did my swap last week. The 50lb/hr Gen IV 12513412 injectors are pretty cheap and have the conversion data for the Gen III platform. Been running them in my LQ9 with no issues, they do need the Delphi to EV6 adapters.

I really wanted a quadrasteer truck when I was truck shopping, but they were super rare and the few I found that I liked priced just a bit higher than I could afford. Don't know if I will ever forget that white crew cab QS truck, it was practically the dream rig listed at $13k

Enjoy it, definitely a unique machine.

Nice truck! I'm a huge fan of the quadrasteer trucks. Judging by your previous projects this thing will be extremely well done!

Out of curiosity, why was the quadrasteer brought only a few years and discontinued? Looks like a fun build

arthursc2 12-04-2019 10:05 AM

They were expensive for GM to build, the rear rack and pinion is specific to the truck (ie $$ to replace) and the D60 rear isnt as stout as the 9.5SF that it "replaced". Plus ppl didnt buy them. It was 4500 or maybe more as an option

Stock up on the control modules for the rear steer!

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a green Sierra Denali let alone a quadrasteer one. Looks nice!

Thanks all. Hoping to have a video by this weekend of it running. Still on the stock injectors for the initial tune.

Anyone think there is an advantage to keeping vacuum reference? I was looking a different fuel regulators today.

dantheman1540 12-06-2019 11:27 AM

I've had good luck with automotive regulators can't comment much in the vacuum reference.

Do these quadrasteer trucks come with a 4l80?
