DIY Denali build
I have a build thread posted elsewhere, but this seems the right forum for it. Reason for posting is to hear opinions and get advice as I do more and more to this truck.
When I bought it:
When I first bought it
Picked up an 06 Sierra Denali 2 yrs ago. 6.0/lq9 65e Awd
Had a low oil pressure issue so I got a decent deal on it. Drove it a couple days, then tore into the engine to find the problem. It ended up having a spun cam bearing, was the cause for low pressure.
Current setup:
New rod, main, and cam bearings.
Polished crank
Ls7 lifters
milled .10 317s w/ stock valves
elgin 220/224 112lsa .585”
TSP longtubes, ORY, Cora’s sport catback (yea its stupid loud)
Circle D 3200 stall
newer model 18” gmc wheels/BFG all terrain 275/70/r18

I am gathering parts now to go turbo. Always wanted to do it. Not looking for a straight drag truck, just something that will get out of its own way and pull my boat on down the hwy. Goal is 5-600hp to the tire.
Parts I’ve got and are aquiring:
VS racing 78/75
fahler log manifold t4
3” downpipe
60lb injectors
walboro 255 or 400 in tank
-8 feed -6 return w/ China rails
aeromotive FPR
zr1 MAP
tru cool trans cooler.
I know the 65e won’t hold it for long, so I’ve got an 80e swap in the works, too. Having trouble making my mind up to stay 80e/AWD, 80e with a Manual 4x4 tcase, or straight 2wd.
Question on for the turbo Sierra/Silverado guys.
Will a vertical flow intercooler be better for my setup or horizontal. Which one fits and works better?

Nice lookin Denali! Got an exhaust clip? Just wondering what the Elgin 220/224 sounds like. I believe you have a typo as that cam (sloppy stage I) has a .575 lift. The Elgin 1840P (sloppy stage II) has the .585 lift.

Sounds really good. I was on the fence between the 220/224 and the 228/230. Now I'm kinda thinking I should have went with the smaller grind for my LQ9 build which is going in the truck, when my mail order tune gets here this week. Thanks for the clips, looking forward to your turbo install. FI is also on my list after a rear gear install.
