Was just thinking about it and if I can sell these heads for a decent price I can buy a 383 stroker kit and start building the spare engine in my shop.

While I'm in there I figure might as well do a new distributor and wires. Amazon had a package deal for a $106. Figure it can't be any worse than an oreilly special and probably better than a 36yr old unit.

That's the plan. Slowly building up a spare parts pile on this truck.

Buddy of mine decided to go with a smaller cooler in his charger and sold me this brand new mishimoto cooler with fan and temp sensor for cheap. Think I'll install this on the transmission.

A little more grinding and a couple of spots weldsand it'll be ready for a quick shot of rattle can. Then I can move on to the next door which I hope goes faster than thisone.

So I sold the vortec heads and parts and decided to just give the current engine a solid tune up. New distributor, new plugs, new wires, new fuel filter, reset the timing, rebuild the carb, and while in there add in an electric choke.

So I started by pulling a spark plug and taking it to get a new one. It was a Bosch platinum. Get there and give the guy the plug and he looks it up and says that ain't right. Turns out the plugs in this truck are for a later blazer with a smaller motor. Awesome. So I get the correct plugs and head home.

Get home and yank the carb to tear it apart. First screw snaps in the shaft for the choke valve. Awesome. Go to pull the shaft for the primary butterflies and it fights me coming out. Why? Because it's freaking bent. So $350 later I've got a new Edelbrock 600 with electric choke.

So I've barely started this and already found messed up crap. I pulled the other 7 plugs and low and behold they look like crap. Now I'm glad I decided to do this project.

Tomorrow while the brisket is smoking I'm going to find TDC (because of course there is no mark or pointer so who knows what the timing is), swap dizzys, and try and get this thing fired back up before the game.

well my friend those are the 2nd worst plugs i think i ever seen, the 1st was out of my zo6 after some back to back nitrous runs things got a little hot plug left loose took a valve with it as it exited my exhaust and almost hit a friends windshield that was behind us (how he seen it exit the exhaust i have no clue but he told me something came loose in my engine on the phone before i even pulled over)

i have a feeling that thing is going to run a hell of a lot better, plug color looks a little on the lean side

I don't know if it's lean or because they were so heavily shrouded from being over a 1/4" short or what. I do know the jets in the original carb had been changed (I've got the numbers written down) but at this point I'm not trusting anything. I can only hope this thing runs better after this. Maybe it'll start when it's cold now instead of taking 2-3 minutes of cranking.
