Bell housing bolts, flex plate bolts, and transmission bushing showed up today. With some luck I’ll have the transmission in this week.

Flex plate is in. Put a quart of fluid in the converter. Tomorrow I’m gonna clean up the crossmember and get the new bushing bolted on. Trying to locate a better transmission jack than my cheap hf one to lift this beast of a trans. Don’t want it falling on me.

Few minor things. Bump stops and got brake lines ran the right way. Previous owner had pulled them out of their spot on the frame and just had them rotated and pointed straight down. Also got the old calipers off and thrown away. I tried to touch up the crossmember with the welder but it’s worn so thin it’s blowing through. Going to pick up some steel this week and cut and splice.

Got the transmission bolted to the engine. Unfortunately it looks like the internet lied again because it said the crossmember should bolt right up when swapping in a 4L80 in place of a 700r4 but that is definitely not the case.

Dammed internet needs a thorough cleaning for sure.

I always thought the 700R4 was a non electronic 4L60

Can you weld a flat piece at the mount to move the crossmenber forward?

Oh I'm sure I can. I'm not terribly worried about it. More annoyed than anything. I did more reading just now and everything says it just slides back about 1.5" and drill new holes and it's done. One of the guy's on the blazer forum said he's had issues with these old frames of them spreading out when you pull the cross member out and you've gotta pull the frame back in to bolt it back in. Given this truck was laying on it's frame for at least the last 10 years, I could see that happening.

Hey it's worth a shot...

Wonder if loosening the closest two body mounts on each side, then pulling the frame together, installing the crossmember, then re-torquing everything at the same time may make her solid like when she rolled off the line?
