Default Crap...

Well...the Patriot Performance Heads lived up to their reputation and crapped out on me last week. The rear rocker support disintegrated...I mean disintegrated. Given that PP used original castings and then CNC ported them to obviously no real QA standard my kit took a dump. So...going with AFR 1630s this time around - should have spent the extra scratch from the start. Live & learn...

I've never seen that before! Are you sure you don't have any piston to valve clearance issues? What springs are you using? Check lifter preload?

I'm certain there was no build/clearance issues with the motor - Tony has been putting together quality race engines for over 30 years. Springs were the dual gold springs that came with the Stage III Patriot 2019s. The shop had never seen it before either but the break is pretty clean - just wasn't machined to handle the stress.

New AFR Heads got here early this morning - tearing the Patriots off tonight and will hopefully have her up and running this weekend. Will be tearing the dual springs off the Patriots and put them up for sale or perhaps the one remaining decent head as a whole. Builder and a lot of posts on LS1Tech project a decent increase in RWP with the new heads. Can't wait.

Well it seems I lost a lifter and destroyed the cam as well...long block is coming out for a re-do and will re-gap the rings for future boost while I'm at it. Looks like I'm getting a fresh build for Christmas

Motor is back in with the new heads, cam, and dropped a 4" Denny's Aluminum DS underneath as well. 2.5miles on the refreshed 383 Stroker with a dyno tune next week. Results to be posted.

Haven't posted to the build thread in a while but have about 23K on the stroker to date since the refresh with the AFR heads and she's still a beast. Just completed the 3rd - yes 3rd rebuild of the 4L60e (I know - do the 80e swap, man...) and since having the tune done correctly by Alvin @ PCM of NC (he knows his stuff) - I believe she's hitting well above the low 370hp that the poor run with another shop in Wilmington, NC that quite frankly - didn't know what to do with the truck. The tuner had no idea how to get rid of the pre detonation and had no clue as to how to tune the transmission. Had Alvin road tune it and it was night and day. Anyways...

Ran in to the P1516 P2135 problem like most folks on here and at first it was indeed the TB harness - fixed it - ran great for about 10 months and then the problem replicated. After much back and forth with Dr. X (a saint, in my book) I dropped in a new X-link and that fixed the issue - for a while. When it started back up I removed the LS2 TB and dropped back on a TBSS TB and no problems since. Will have it ported by Peak pretty soon but no problems with it at all. Dropped in a pair of 1 7/8" LT Kooks and Hi-Flow cats and she sounds nasty when opened up - love it.

Looking forward to having Alvin dyno-tune it soon so I can get some real #s. She runs strong and is torquey as hell. Love her as a daily driver and can't wait to drop in the LSXRT since I'm keeping it NA. Prior to that, though, I'll have the long block refreshed and swap out the cam for something just a tad more aggressive.

Lots of great advise on this forum and I appreciate the help from everyone who has given it. Again, a grateful shout out to Kelly and Alvin from PCM of NC. Always willing to help via email and on target with every piece of advice along the way.

Happy Stroking

PCM and Alvin are great. They bib my NNBS 4.8 with cam, lsxrt, bolt ons and heavy 22's I was right at 370 hp with the dyno tune.

Nice...I have an appointment on Jan 9th with Alvin to get her dialed in on the dyno. The daily driving part of the tune is great - just need to tweak what can be out of the build. I'm hoping to see #s close to what the stroker should be pushing (even on a heavy truck). Next up with be the LSXRT & bigger cam - keeping this one N/A. Where are you in NC, by the way?
