Ported Power Stroke heads
 

Has anyone considered porting the heads for these engines? I recently flow tested a Power Stroke head for a guy. The airflow we recorded wasn't too impressive for a 4 valve head. I reworked the valve seats and the guy took the heads and ported both intake and exhaust ports. I'm going to retest the heads sometime today to see what improvements we made. I'll try and post up the info over the weekend.

Stock Ford heads are crap crap crap, its why thier NA motors dont make any power.
I remember comparing thier 4v cobra head to an ls6 2v head and the ls6 was hands down better even when ported!!

Im still interested to hear about the results the 7.3's that Ive put turbo backs and tunes on have been lack luster. Thier new turbo diesel is another story as long as it stays together.

Theres no point in porting PSD heads.. There isnt a turbo out there that can cram more air than the cylinder heads will take stock.. I bet the guy will maybe pick up a few horses and better turbo repsonse, but I hope he's not looking for some serious gains...

I tested the intake port late this afternoon. It picked up a tad over 30cfm @.300" lift. It's very strong from .300" to .400"+. I'll test the exhaust ports tomorrow.

I undertand that the stock turbos limit the power output, but with a larger blower and some ported heads, big torque could get made.

Many years ago I ported a set of 350 Cummings heads. The guy lost 7lbs of manifold pressure after the porting. He then upgraded the turbo and got his full boost back. Then he could out run the 450 Cummings trucks :burn: And on top of that, he got over 1 mpg more and saved enough fuel money in the first two months to pay for the head work.

Im talking about aftermarket turbos as well.. The highest flowing turbo is the HTT Ball Buster, which has made close to 700rwhp, but on stock heads..

The HTT turbo is for the 7.3 a two valve head the 6.0 has the 4 valve head and the is only two turbos in development for the 6.0 rite now a modified stock one and one that is not based on a stock turbo and dosent have the VGT and I'm not shure how much cfm it flows. Now as far as the HTT goes it is the next to smallist aftermarket turbo you can buy for the 7.3 it's only 750-800 cfm the most power that turbo has made without blowing up is 450 hp any one that has had the turbo on a truck big injectors and a good program has burned that turbo up I could count on one hand how many 700 hp 7.3 there are in this country, the gt38 bb turbo is 2mm smaller does a better job and can handle more, the H2e and s300 kits are 950-1100 cfm depending witch ex housing used and the gt42 or the ASB is 1400-1500 cfm depending witch ex housing used also. The HTT and the gt38 bb both mount on the stock turbo mount and spin ccw all the other turbos are kits with correct rotion turbos they spin cw.

Hey Roger welcome to the forum. Great info about the different turbos. I guess the debate about porting the heads will get settled when some testing finally gets done. Lord knows that based on the airflow gain the ported PS heads will help even in low boost conditions.
