Photography Newb - Need Advice

I figured you guys might be able to point me in the right direction. Ive been doing some reading and I believe I grasp the concepts of the basics from the links I found in other threads down below.

Currently at work we have a Nikon D50 that I am fairly comfortable with using. I am looking to purchase something similar but one thing that would be really cool is to have movie functionality like the Nikon D300s or D700. But not so much for the price.

I'd like an all around good camera, but something not so fragile that dust or moisture would mess it up. Something you would feel comfortable traveling with whether it be for a camping trip, or through the woods to take pictures, or just taking it outside to shoot pictures of pets.

Any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated!

i had a nikon d90...as good as my current D300s...d300s has a few more goodies, but not worth the price difference...if i were to do it again, id get a full frame SLR

With any interchangeable lens camera dust is going to be a concern, although if you take care of it, it won't be an issue. I'm currently using an Olympus EP-2, I enjoy it much more than my old Canon DSLR. And, they are dirt cheap right now!

Spend your money on a nice lens. It will hold its value longer and do more for you image quality wise than any camera body.

jkru617:Thats true about the lense. Some lenses cost more the the camera body!

I own a Nikon D60 and Nikon D7000. My best lense is a Tamron 70-200mm

I think adjusting with any interchangeable lens camera would be nice option to go with.Anyhow thanks to all for some more informative contribution.
