I've given up on the 4l60e all together now.
So, whats the answer to the tranny/nitrous dilema, a 4L80E? Could they take the abuse?

I've been spraying a 80 shot on a stock 4l60 with a stock tune except for a hypercrap to change shift points and firmness for 5 years and 50k miles now and have been very fortunate that it has held up. My results are not typical, I would have expected it to crap on me by now. I have a dry kit on a momentary switch so I control the spray but I do spray through the shifts. One thing that is probably helping is the hypercrap does not eliminate the factory torque management? I in no manner endorse the hypercrap, It was free and I have yet to take the plunge to a tune until I get a few more bolt ons, cam etc... It's a daily driver and as well and dosen't get driven hard on the spray very often anymore.

You know, I've been pretty amazed at what these built 4L65e seem to be able to take from guys on the board. Looks like that is the route to go without gaining all of the weight and extra expense of going to the 80e. I'm just not a big fan of the stock 80e gear ratios.

I thought about buying a transgo kit for my l65. Is this a very hard project that would require some professional work?...I am going to buy a 2600 stahl converter soon and i was gonna do the transgo kit first. Plus some servos

Many nonprofessional people have installed the shift kits, but I've always been alittle scared of tackling it myself. I've dropped a valve body before and it just seems to particular to work with for me personally. The servos you can handle with no problems, but if you have any doubts, let someone else drop the valve body and install the shift kit.

buy a built 60/65e from a reputable builder and spray through the shifts IMO.

shutting off the spray before the shift is like putting torque management back into the motor. performabuilt and FLT seem to be the 2 that build 60e's to take some serious punishment
