We make money selling parts and labor no matter who it is. Remove the crap before it comes in and we are covered as far as the no signs of abuse or modifications. I would pull mine off just in case my District Service Manager came in and wanted to look while the truck was in the shop if I ever did have a problem.

In my experience, dealership mechanics don't know much more than, "Take it out, put the new one in!" Rip out and replace! Don't get me wrong, I'll admit I'm a rank amateur. But trying to sleuth out warranty abuses ranks lower on the priority list than finishing it up and getting to the bar to most dealer wrenches.

We do have to do a teardown and a repair vs. replace cost comparison. Who's to say what caused the problem if it is a first time complaint - bring it back for a second or third round and we will try to find something or quit ignoring. On some new release items they just send an exchange unit so they get them all back to evaluate and revise so future probs. will be eliminated or slowed down to reduce warranty costs.
