Default New to site looking for some ideas for my truck

Hey guys I just bought my first Silverado/chevy last year. I've got an 07 1500 classic crew cab with the 5.3l. I put some stereo stuff in it so far but I'm trying to figure out what mods would be the best bang for my buck. I know the ls engines like boost but that's not an option for me right now.

I'm definitely on a budget maybe 1000 to start with and more overtime. Its my daily right now so I'm not looking for a crazy 1000hp. I want better throttle response and more power it just seems slugish. I know I want an exhaust just not sure what kind yet I want something loud and aggressive but not obnoxious

These are just my suggestions.

Airaid Intake Tube, gut the stock airbox for more airflow. Some headers and a tune. Past that make sure maintenance is up to snuff with spark plugs and wires, no vacuum leaks or lazy o2 sensors (if over 100k miles, you may as well just replace the pre-cat senors).

Going deeper is going to cost far more money. A camshaft would pretty much take up your whole budget.

You could if you don't have emissions but it would still require a tune to shut off the rear o2 sensors and cat over temp protection in the tune. Leave the rear o2 sensors plugged in though to prevent the cat diag from going off.

Just removing them with doing nothing else won't gain anyththing though.

Ok cool. I was thinking about doing the intake header back exhaust and maybe some 373s. Do you have any suggestions for the tune. Will a programmer do it or does it need an actual dyno tune

What gears does it have stock? If 3.42's going to 3.73 won't really be that much of a difference. Go with some 3.90's or 4.10's for something better. Of course if you are 4WD it's going to be pretty spendy to do both.

To me any of the Diablo or Superchips handheld programmers are not worth the money, they don't really even tune the vehicle at all. They are just canned tunes that you just load into the computer. For the cost they aren't worth it and if you change something later like headers/camshaft upgrade they become pretty much useless at that point.

Depending on where you live someone might be able to give you a custom tune, is does not need to be done on a dyno and likely better that it's not. You are limited to 100mph because of the driveshaft and street tuning is easier most of the time. If you want to learn it yourself go with HP Tuners or EFI Live.
