New guy here, looking for RCSB, help me figure out which one?
 
So I've been wanting to get me a sports truck for a while, but I go back and forth on this and that. I don't have a preference as far as nbs or nnbs, but if I were to do an nnbs would the 6l80 trans be the one to get or stay with the earlier ones with the 4l60? I'm looking at FI, whether it be turbo or supercharged. Tell me what you would do, realistically. I'm not looking to do a custom stroker motor or anything, just a quality reliable truck.

6L80 will hold 500whp a lot longer than the 4L60 will

Both can be swapped for a 4L80

Pick the body style you want and go from there. Me personally, NBS wins the looks department

Since you're wanting FI no way I would do a 4l60 so it will have to be swapped to a 4l80 to be near 100% reliable. A 6l80 can handle quite a lot. I would do NBS for a much cheaper build plus better looking imo.

The deal is here in Texas a clean RCSB is still 7k minimum it seems like. I don't want busted plastics and everything else. Not asking for a new truck but I do want a good solid start. Decent paint and what not. Am I just looking in the wrong places? That's the reason I mentioned the nnbs is because the interior seems to be better in those. I'm not arguing just trying to find the right truck to start with. If you had say..... $10k cash to play with, what would you do?

for 10k I wouldnt start with a RCSB because of the price. ECSB or Crew Cab get my votes, but they come with the penalty of extra weight

Im an SUV guy and you can damn near get a Tahoe and a boost kit of your flavor for less than a RCSB goes for

That being said I have a procharged Tahoe

Man I've been scouring every site I can think of to find the same thing. I don't think 10k is gonna cut it for a truck with FI included. If you're patient you may find a RCSB 2wd for 5500 or so but like you said most are higher and you'll still need a 4l80. I guess a NNBS with a 6l80 because they are really very little difference in price and do the FI later. I've been to auto trader, cars.com, carfax, car gurus, and another but the name escapes me...

I should have been clearer. I'm not saying $10k and already boosted, but a clean cammed or 4l80 swapped or something so I'm not starting from absolute scratch. But yeah, it's frustrating. And I don't mind the ECSB, but if I were to get one of those I would only want a 6.0 or 6.2 nnbs for the torque because of the extra weight. I'm seriously thinking of doing a 2500hd nnbs just so I have a 6.0 4l80 setup right off the bat lol. I really enjoy my '14 2500hd.

2007.5+ 2500 and 3500 trucks do no use a 4L80e.

They run a 6L90e, just a little more beefy than a 6L80e.

Well now then there is hope lol! I think a 05-06 2500 is an excellent choice. My 06 2wd only weighed about 100 lbs more than my 07 RCSB 4wd. The 6.0 and 4l80 is a fantastic starting point and soooo easy to mod. I paid only 5700 for mine 5 yrs ago with 111k mi. Wish I would've kept it if I knew what I know now. I wanted a 4wd to boost but honestly what I use it for 363 days out of the year is to haul tools and parts with a loaded bed as a work truck. Traction wouldn't really be terrible at all loaded. If a 2500 becomes available soon for the right price I may jump ship. I need another turbo in my life. Either a 2wd 2500 NBS-NNBS or a NNBS RCSB 6 spd 4wd has my vote for sure.
