Hows it going? I am in SC, and have a 09 Silverado 4x4 with a LC9 5.3L. have been toying with upgrade ideas, and figured this is the place to be. I have worked on my cars and the wifes. I replaced the lifter in the truck when I bought it, am not afraid of taking the motor apart. Am more comfortable with carbs/2strokes. Am down to buy tools if i dont already have it.
About the truck: bought it 12/2021 for $6,000 @ 98,000 miles (110,000 current). 5.3L 4x4, collapsed lifter, needed a tail light, some body work and new paint. Fixed the lifter by myself. 2" level front. New headlights. New paint. Bumper guard. Camper shell(painted). Got the DOD tuned out, and have a 87 performance tow tune on it right now.
Goal: Build the engine and powertrain to be a beast of a daily that can haul "tail" and tow boats. not interested in the track/racing, but faster never hurt
Current plans: DOD delete and new cam. would love to eventually do a turbo
Looking for advice to make sure I do everything right the first go round to not buy/build twice lol. I will post more specifics in the right section.
I use this cam on DOD deletes in trucks and suvs.
Idles like stock, very easy to tune, and makes enough difference my wife noticed the first time she drove her tahoe after the DOD delete. She asked what did i do to her truck haha.
Welcome to the forum, and another fellow South Carolinian to boot. I am building an NNBS truck myself, albeit with different goals. If you ever want to talk trucks or need a quick answer feel free to PM me. I have lived, eaten, and breathed gm trucks for nearly 3 decades now, so I usually can get you an answer. I don't know what part of the state you're in, but I am in the upstate. If you are close by and ever need help with anything just ask.
In my build I went with the cam nicknamed the "sloppy stage 2" made by elgin. It has a nice little bit of lope, but idles well and makes amazing mid range torque and power. I paired it with an LSA blower on my 6.0 and made 500 WHP at 6000 (would have made more at higher rpm, but didn't have the transmission built yet) and 550 WTQ at 3500. If you want something that drives great, and tows like a freight train, I can't recommend positive displacement superchargers enough.
